Summary

Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant

Could you work closely with pupils with additional needs while developing experience relevant to teaching, educational psychology, or speech and language therapy?

An inclusive and forward-thinking SEN primary school in Liverpool is recruiting a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This long-term opportunity runs initially until July 2026, with a strong likelihood of continuing from September 2026.

Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant

Full-time, long-term Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant role (Monday–Friday)
Weekly pay of up to £540
Opportunity to work within a Liverpool SEN primary school with strong inclusion practices
Ongoing mentoring and training from experienced SEN and inclusion staff
Excellent preparation for PGCE courses, SEN teaching roles, or psychology pathways
Position starting ASAP until July 2026, with potential extension from September 2026

Ideal Candidate – Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant:

2:1 degree or higher (Psychology, Education, or core subject degrees preferred)
A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting SEN pupils
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
Previous experience with SEN, tutoring, youth work, or mentoring is advantageous but not required
Must have the right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)

The Role – Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant:

In this role, you will support pupils aged 4–11 with a range of additional needs, including learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, and social or emotional challenges. Responsibilities include providing 1:1 support, leading small intervention groups, and working alongside teachers to adapt lessons and resources so all pupils can engage successfully.

This Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant role is ideal for graduates looking to build long-term experience within SEN education before progressing into teacher training or specialist support roles. This role offers an excellent chance to gain paid, school-based experience while helping pupils with SEN reach their full academic and personal potential.
