Summary
About the Role
We are looking for a proactive and organised Bus Station Facilities Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation, safety, cleanliness and upkeep of our busy bus station. This is a key role ensuring the station remains a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment for passengers, operators and staff.
You’ll have direct responsibility for managing contracted and in-house teams, with particular emphasis on cleaning standards and security operations, ensuring compliance with health & safety requirements and delivering high-quality services to the public.
Key Responsibilities
As Bus Station Facilities Manager, you will:
Facilities & Operational Management
Oversee the daily operation of the bus station, ensuring facilities are safe, functional and presented to a high standard.
Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance works including repairs, inspections and servicing.
Monitor and manage the performance of contractors, ensuring service-level agreements are met.
Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance and quality standards.
Manage station assets and report defects or required improvements promptly.
Cleaning Oversight
Lead and manage cleaning services, ensuring the station meets cleanliness and hygiene requirements at all times.
Monitor cleaning schedules, staffing levels and performance.
Carry out spot checks and inspections to maintain consistent standards.
Ensure appropriate procedures are in place for waste disposal, deep cleaning and incident responses.
Security Oversight
Manage the delivery of security services, ensuring effective coverage across the station.
Work closely with security teams to maintain passenger safety and deter anti-social behaviour.
Ensure compliance with CCTV monitoring procedures, incident reporting and emergency protocols.
Liaise with police, local authorities and other stakeholders as needed.
Lead investigations and reporting following incidents, ensuring lessons learned are implemented.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure the station complies with all relevant health & safety, fire safety and operational regulations.
Maintain up-to-date risk assessments, incident logs and compliance documentation.
Lead emergency response preparedness, including drills and procedure reviews.
People & Stakeholder Management
Provide leadership, supervision and support for teams across cleaning and security functions.
Promote a culture of high standards, accountability and customer service.
Act as the primary point of contact for operators, staff, passengers and external partners regarding station facilities issues.
Respond promptly to customer complaints and service issues, escalating as appropriate.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone who is confident, professional and experienced in managing facilities in a busy public environment.
Essential:
Proven experience in facilities management, operations or site management (preferably in a public-facing setting).
Experience managing cleaning and/or security teams or contractors - an SIA license is ESSENTIAL for this role.
Strong knowledge of health & safety standards, risk assessments and compliance requirements.
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Confident decision-maker with a calm, practical approach to incident management.
Desirable:
Experience working in transport hubs, retail environments, estates, local authority facilities or similar.
IOSH Managing Safely (or willingness to achieve).
Experience working with CCTV systems and security reporting procedures.
A valid SIA (Minimum Door Supervisor) license.
Knowledge of contractor procurement and SLA management.
