Job description

Job purpose
You would be a companion and a motivator, helping me to gain confidence in being independent and encourage me on my fitness path.

About me
I am 20 years old and I have Down’s syndrome. I would like a support worker to help me access some physical activities to support me with my health and wellbeing. I can get a little lonely as my brothers and sisters no longer live at home. My speech is clear, and I have a great sense of humour and fun. I can be a little shy at first but I’m a very sociable person and love company. Although, I am very trusting which can make me vulnerable to strangers. The right candidate will have a positive attitude and approach which is just as important as training.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
To pick me up from and take me to clubs and activities (e.g. the swimming pool, gym, shopping etc.) and actively participate as necessary
Encourage me to make healthy food choices and to drink water as I rarely feel thirsty
Encourage me to engage in conversations and reassure me about my speech to me to help me regain confidence
Help motivate me to partake in physical activities

Essential Criteria
A valid driver’s licence. You must be 25 or older to drive my Motability vehicle or have access to your own vehicle with business car insurance cover.

A positive and cheerful disposition

Desirable Criteria
Previous experience in a similar role
Creative and artistic
A love of music (particularly a love of Cher!)
A love of swimming and the gym

Summary terms and conditions
Hours, days and times of work:
8 hours available per week
The days are flexible for the right candidate
Some days will need to include travel time to and from activities, this can be discussed further with the right candidate
Pay rate: £13.55 per hour
Annual leave: The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work normally done during 5.6 weeks (statutory entitlement).
Expenses: You will be reimbursed for prior agreed expenses incurred as part of the role.
Sick pay: I do not operate a private sick pay scheme but provided you meet the eligibility criteria, you may be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
Pension: I do not operate a private pension scheme but I will fulfil my statutory obligations via the NEST pension scheme.
