JOB DESCRIPTION
Do you have a few hours to spare each week that could be spent earning extra cash while visiting the gym, cinema having a game of pool or a visit to the pub? Why not consider a part-time personal assistant job assisting a young man with Down Syndrome? The hours will mainly be late afternoon / early evening, with the occasional weekend.

Our son is a very independent young man who has worked in the University Cafe for the past 12 years. He is extremely sociable and loves the university buzz. He prides himself on his fitness, regularly working out at the Uni gym and swimming 2 or 3 times per week. He is a former Special Olympics gold medallist in powerlifting. More recently he has enjoyed boxing and box fit classes.

Over the past few years, he has had a succession of Students helping him access these activities and sharing his social life - cinema museum and gallery visits pubs etc. They have also encouraged him to prepare and cook simple healthy meals with a view to promote a more independent lifestyle in the future. He loves talking to people and asking questions. He is an avid fan of all the TV “Soaps”, loves wrestling and listening to 80s music and has an incredible memory for movie release dates. His karaoke talents are phenomenal.

Without exception his previous support workers have all enjoyed the experience benefiting greatly from him; some becoming close family friends

Some of you may well have seen his happy, smiling face on campus or even chatted to him. Why not consider a buddy/enabler role? We have the opportunity to employ 1 or 2 people for 16 hrs a week in total. Further down the track there is the possibility of respite weekend cover

If you are interested why not get in touch and meet us, chat with us and talk to his current support worker who is leaving the city after three years working in the role.

The current rate of pay is £14 per hour and we have a total of 16 hours available per week.
