This is a benign HPB consultant post with opportunities to work collaboratively with the four resectional surgeons to expand operating and clinical skills.
Clinical duties include:
Outpatient Clinics
This post will have a weekly outpatient session.
Theatre Sessions
The new consultant will have regular day case theatre commitments at UHCW NHS Trust and St Cross Hospital, Rugby, and will be expected to work flexibly within the HPB team and the general surgical department, backfilling main theatre lists. This is equitable across the HPB consultant team as all colleagues work flexibly and backfill lists where required. Support and mentoring will be provided by the current substantive HPB consultants.
The successful candidate will be expected to take part in the 1:4 HPB on-call rota and the 1:14 on-call rota for general surgery. There is a 24-hour on-call period, with post-take cover the following day. Consultants must be within 30 minutes of UHCW during these periods. The on call is supported by two SpR grades, two junior clinical fellows and three Foundation Doctors. Elective commitments are stood down for the day of on-call and the following day to allow for post-take activities.

Attention and aspiration to lifelong learning will be supported by the Specialty Group and the Trust to demonstrate safe, effective, knowledge based clinical capabilities.The postholder will have a reflective approach to their own practice and will agree to a program of continuing professional development which meets his/her and service provision requirements.
Completion of a revalidation ready annual appraisal and undertaking multisource feedback at least once every five years to meet the requirements for revalidation.
