We are dedicated to being an inclusive employer, offering equitable opportunities for all individuals. Our goal is to build a diverse workforce, and we hope to attract applications from all backgrounds and underrepresented groups.
We have an exciting opportunity available to work as a Veterinary Advisor in the TB Delivery Advice team, part of APHA’s Animal Health and Welfare Advice team.
You will play a key role as part of a team led by the Veterinary Head for TB Delivery in the development, implementation, and evaluation of APHA's delivery of bovine TB eradication in England and Wales, and TB control in Scotland. You will work closely with operational delivery teams across Great Britain as well as collaborating with policy customers and a range of stakeholders to provide high quality operational, veterinary, and scientific evidence and advice along with veterinary leadership and technical expertise for the Endemics (bovine TB, Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) and sheep scab) operational work.
The role involves a wide range of work including, but not limited to, the following:
- Provision of subject matter expertise, evidence, and advice to support the management and control of TB-related risks including representing APHA at local and national boards and meetings as required.
- Provision of evidence and advice to policy customers and contribution to the initial impact assessments to inform policy makers about the operational aspects of new work and change initiatives.
- Functional lead for the Endemics Knowledge Forum.
- Provision of technical evidence and advice about APHA's operational delivery of bovine TB eradication/control strategy in response to official correspondence and wider government initiatives.
- Ensuring effective knowledge exchange between business units and teams, enabling effective decision-making, risk assessment and management of knowledge gaps, continuous improvement, and reporting.
- Writing instructions and guidance, working with veterinary, science and other colleagues to ensure that all veterinary and technical delivery activities relating to TB, Sheep Scab and BVD are described in accordance with desired policy outcomes, business plans and performance targets.
- Working with others to identify efficiencies and amendments to support best practice and value for money.
- Supporting operational colleagues in decision-making which requires a deep understanding of TB, to include veterinary risk assessments, recognition and resolution of issues which require amendment of instructions, and delivery of training.
- Supporting senior management to deliver the APHA vision by contributing to the corporate leadership of the Agency and acting as a role model to embed the necessary performance and cultural changes in their subject area of influence.
You will be required to take part in an out of hours rota and provide telephone advice and immediate response to incidents and emergencies as required by the Business. An allowance will be paid for this work.
You must be able to regularly travel to other locations to meet business needs.
