We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced substantive ST1/2 to join our Trauma and Orthopaedic Team based at Peterborough City Hospital. You will join a team of 10 resident doctors working alongside 24 registrars and 26 Consultants at an extremely busy DGH serving a population of over 850,000 people.
You will be working a full Rota shift pattern which includes a 1:10 day on-call and 1:10 night on-call duties. You will be assisting on the trauma wards, clerking patients for theatre lists, ensuring that VTE assessments and respect form paperwork are completed when patients arrive on the wards.
We are committed to diversity and inclusion and welcome applicants from all backgrounds — especially people from ethnic minority groups, disabled individuals, and those living locally.
We offer a range of benefits to support our staff — see the attached leaflet for details and are proud to be a supportive, inclusive workplace where you will feel valued and empowered. Join us and help make a difference in our community.
You will join a team of ten junior doctors who support the Orthopaedic department with routine ward work as well as pre-operative assessment. PCH has a dedicated team of Trauma Nurse Practitioners that work alongside the on-call teams to facilitate the utilisation of trauma theatre lists and support the trauma ward rounds. There are two dedicated Orthopaedic trauma wards, B5 (general trauma) and B7 (specialises in Hip trauma and is additionally supported by a dedicated Orthogeriatric team). Paediatric elective and trauma patients are supported by the Paediatric ward. There is a surgical day treatment unit (DTU) that operates from Monday to Friday and is closed over weekends. There is also a new Acute Surgical Hub (ASH) that opened this summer that does have Orthopaedic admissions. During your on call shifts you will work alongside a resident on call SPR, both during the day and overnight. You will also be supported by the On Call Consultant who is based at Peterborough during the day and non-resident overnight.
Consultants work one week in ten on-call based at Peterborough, one in twenty for weekends. They are resident during the day and non-resident on call overnight. They support both the Hinchingbrooke and Peterborough on call teams. The Consultants and Specialty Doctors undertake trauma lists and outpatient elective and fracture sessions each week and the FY2 or ST1/2 doctors are expected to clerk the patients for those lists. Ward rounds are included in the weekly schedule. The Trust Doctor’s role will be that of an SHO and will fit into going on ward rounds and supporting consultants in theatre when required. You will be given regular opportunities to attend clincs and theatres to support your ongoing training.
There are regular monthly medical audit meetings. The team are currently reviewing our teaching programme that had been previously suspended due to the covid pandemic.
