Job Description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Art Technician to join our fantastic team at Chorlton High School.

This is a permanent part time post working 2 days/14 hours per week 8am-3.30pm, working days to be agreed, term time only plus three weeks. The pro rata starting salary is £9,109 per annum, full-time equivalent is £25,185 Grade 3.

We’re looking for:We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Art Technicianto join our creative team on a part-time basis. Working under the direction of teaching and senior staff, the successful candidate will provide high-quality technical support to the Art department, helping to create an inspiring, safe, and well-resourced learning environment for our students.

This role plays a key part in supporting students to become creative, confident, and successful learners, while contributing positively to the wider life and ethos of the school.

Main purpose of the job:

To work collaboratively with teaching and associate staff to support students in becoming creative, happy, and successful learners. Under the direction of senior staff, the postholder will provide technical support within the Art department, including the preparation, maintenance, and safe use of resources and equipment, making a positive contribution to the effective delivery of the curriculum and the wider work of the school.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Support pupils in accessing learning activities under the guidance of the teacher and provide appropriate feedback on progress and achievement where required.
• Prepare, maintain, and organise art rooms to ensure a purposeful, orderly, and productive working environment.
• Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and safe use of specialist art equipment, tools, and materials.
• Provide practical support to teaching staff by responding efficiently to requests and maintaining accurate records, data, and information.
• Promote positive behaviour and ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of pupils at all times.
• Monitor, manage, and catalogue stock within an agreed budget, including undertaking audits as required.
• Carry out routine maintenance, safety checks, and minor repairs to specialist equipment, arranging external repairs when necessary.
• Demonstrate and assist in the safe and effective use of specialist equipment and materials and support demonstrations or structured learning activities under appropriate supervision.
• Keep up to date with developments in art materials, technology, and equipment, supporting staff in evaluating new resources and equipment.
• Comply with all school policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, security, and confidentiality, reporting concerns appropriately.
• Support equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring all pupils have equal access to learning opportunities.
• Work collaboratively as part of a team, attend meetings and training, and contribute positively to the ethos and aims of the school.
• Provide technical support beyond lesson time, including extracurricular activities, and offer short-term cover or assist with exam invigilation where appropriate.
