At Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we’re proud to be an ambitious, forward‑thinking organisation committed to delivering exceptional care to every patient, every day. We’re now looking for dedicated and enthusiasticHeathcare Support Workers to join our team.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our nursing teams and delivering compassionate, individualised patient care. No two days are the same — you’ll be part of a fast‑paced, rewarding environment where your contribution truly matters.

What the Role Involves
• Working a variety of shift patterns, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays
• Standard 12‑hour shifts across most wards
• Supporting Team Leaders and Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in delivering high‑quality care
• Enhancing patient experience through kindness, professionalism, and excellent communication
• Developing your skills across a range of specialties in a dynamic clinical environment

You’ll thrive in this role if you are:
• Motivated, enthusiastic, and eager to learn
• Able to work well under pressure with a friendly, professional approach
• Confident using your own initiative to solve problems
• Sensitive and compassionate when supporting patients and families
• Organised, adaptable, and ready for a challenge

Please note: Previous experience is required for applicants wishing to join the Bank.

You’ll be joining a skilled and supportive team dedicated to delivering high‑quality, individualised patient care. This is a role for someone who brings energy, motivation, and a genuine passion for improving the patient experience. Every day will stretch your organisational skills, broaden your clinical knowledge, and give you the chance to work across a variety of specialties.

What You’ll Be Doing
• Providing compassionate, person‑centred care and communicating with kindness.
• Supporting patients with personal care needs, including catheter care and continence management
• Assisting with nutrition and hydration to promote patient wellbeing
• Delivering effective pressure area care
• Collecting routine specimens safely and accurately
• Carrying out safe moving and handling practices
• Completing essential documentation such as food and fluid charts and outcome sheets
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and well‑organised clinical environment
• Delivering care in line with risk assessments and individual care plans
• Ensuring clinical rooms are fully stocked with the correct forms and patient information
• Preparing medical notes to support the smooth running of clinics

We are proud to be one of the top NHS employers in the South West. As committed as you are to delivering excellent patient care, we are equally committed to supporting your growth. Guided by our STAR Values, we offer the training, guidance, and development opportunities you need at every stage of your career.

Please note: this role does not meet UK Visas and Immigration requirements for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship, so we are unable to sponsor applicants through this route.

We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate their right to work in the UK or who qualify through alternative visa routes. All applications will be considered equally.

An Assistant Health Care Support Worker (AHCSW) is a key member of the team, providing personal care to patients and supporting registered practitioners in delivering high‑quality, compassionate care. You will carry out a variety of non‑clinical tasks under the direct supervision of a registered healthcare professional, ensuring care is delivered to agreed standards and in line with our Trust values.
