Summary
The Corporate Lawyer will manage a caseload primarily focused on Employment Tribunal litigation and the provision of employment law advice to council services. The role involves handling a range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters, including claims in the Employment Tribunal, disciplinary and grievance issues, restructures, and general employment law advisory work.
While the substantive post also incorporates Education Law, the council is seeking a candidate who is an employment law specialist. A willingness to undertake education-related legal work is desirable but not essential.
The role requires providing clear, timely, and practical legal advice, managing cases independently, drafting legal documents, and representing or supporting the council in tribunal proceedings. The post holder will work closely with HR, senior officers, and other stakeholders to ensure legal compliance and effective risk management.
The successful candidate will be a qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive with significant experience in employment law and Employment Tribunal work. Strong advocacy, advisory, and communication skills are essential.
