Summary

The PRS Lettings Negotiator will work within the Housing Needs service to secure private rented accommodation to help prevent and relieve homelessness. The role focuses on sourcing, negotiating, and securing affordable properties from private landlords and agents for a range of households, including homelessness prevention cases and move-on from temporary or supported accommodation.

The post holder will generate property leads, negotiate rental terms and incentives, carry out property inspections, and ensure homes meet required standards. They will work closely with Housing Advisors and other colleagues to assess tenant suitability, match households to appropriate properties, and support tenants to start and sustain their tenancies.

The role includes liaising with landlords, arranging and attending viewings, providing advice on lettings, supporting Housing Benefit or Universal Credit applications, and maintaining accurate records using council systems. The post holder will also contribute to landlord engagement activity and ensure compliance with council policies, financial regulations, safeguarding duties, and relevant housing legislation.

The successful candidate will have experience in negotiation or sales, knowledge of housing or homelessness services, an understanding of property standards and health and safety requirements, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
