Crynodeb
We are seeking a dependable and experienced self-employed Personal Assistant to provide in-home support to a 77-year-old gentleman. The purpose of this role is to offer respite to his wife, allowing her to attend appointments and maintain social and family commitments.
Role Overview
The position is a sitting-in service within the family home. The gentleman is fully bed-bound and requires continuous supervision and support to ensure his safety, comfort, and wellbeing.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Providing companionship and emotional reassurance
• Maintaining constant supervision during eating and drinking due to coughing episodes
• Supporting with basic personal care, including monitoring a catheter bag and occasional pad changes (primary personal care is generally undertaken by professional carers)
• Supporting an individual living with dementia, including managing occasional inappropriate language in a calm, professional, and firm manner
• Always ensuring the individual’s safety and dignity
• Undertaking light domestic duties during rest periods, including hoovering and cleaning kitchen and bathroom floors
Health and Care Needs
• History of heart attack and multiple mini strokes
• Severe mobility limitations: movement restricted to the right arm and head
• Diabetes (non-insulin dependent)
• Diagnosis of dementia
Additional Information
• The household includes two cats; applicants must be comfortable working in a pet-friendly environment
• Relevant experience in care, dementia support, or a similar role is desirable
Person Specification
• Reliable, professional, and trustworthy
• Calm, patient, and confident in managing complex care needs
• Comfortable assisting with personal care
• Able to work independently and exercise sound judgement
• Self-employed status required
