About the Role:
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Revenue Case Worker to join the Westmorland and Furness Council Team. You will have a considerable caseload over 3 legacy areas with targets of 20-30 documents processed per day. The will be a full range of liability and recovery case work.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in the processing of billing, collection, and recovery of Council Tax and or Non-Domestic Rates (Business Rates) debts up to and including enforcement stage.
- Handle customer enquiries and correspondence efficiently and accountable while adhering to relevant legislative provisions, council policy, and financial regulations.
- Operate a systematic billing and recovery procedure within Revenues to ensure efficiency and accountability.
- Deal with customer enquiries via telephone, email, and written communication.
- Maintain accurate records and process information within set timescales and procedures.
- Make decisions in accordance with Council Tax and or Non-Domestic Rates legislation regarding liability, discounts, and reductions.
- Actively recover Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates arrears through various communication channels.
- Monitor payment arrangements and take prompt recovery action in line with relevant legislation.
- Liaise with other Council staff, the Department of Work and Pensions, and other stakeholders to provide an efficient and effective revenues and benefit service.
Who Are We Looking For:
- Proficiency in using MRI processing system and NEC Enterprise systems is a must.
- Sound understanding of Council Tax and/or Business Rates and relevant legislation built over a minimum of 7 years' experience of working in a Revenues environment.
- Reliable, responsible, and self-motivated.
- Ability to work to clearly defined targets and deadlines.
- Awareness and understanding of customer needs.
- Practical experience in an appropriate work environment and the ability to advise others on relevant issues.
- Clear communication skills with sensitivity and empathy to build trust.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Must successfully undertake Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks and undertake a basic DBS check
- Essential: Capita/MRI Experience, 4+ minimum Revenues field experience, 4+ minimum experience working with Council Tax and business rate.
