An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 clinical research nurse to join our multidisciplinary team within the NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility. The unit is a NHS research facility at Hammersmith Hospital in west London. It is located at the heart of one of the UK’s most research-intensive universities, Imperial College. It provides a dedicated, well-equipped and professional environment that enables medical staff and scientists to work together to investigate disease and trial the latest scientific ideas for improving diagnosis and treatment. The CRF provides comfortable clinical accommodation for healthy volunteers and patients participating in studies requiring long-term 24h in-house monitoring as well as facilities for day case visits. It is equipped to cater for complex studies from across the range of medical disciplines and provides close proximity space for clinical research fellows, nurses and allied healthcare professionals.
We are looking for a motivated, skilful and knowledgeable nurse who works well as part of a team. Knowledge of clinical research is necessary. Strong background of clinical skills (administration of intravenous drugs, phlebotomy and cannulation) is essential.
The unit specialises in commercial and academic early phase clinical studies in various disease areas including respiratory, renal, neurology, oncology and metabolic medicine as well as healthy volunteers’ trials.
• Provide participants with the knowledge and directions to facilitate and maintain informed consent throughout their study contribution.
• Be familiar and compliant with the rules and applications of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and other elements of Research Governance.
• Maintain your competency in all clinical and research skills in line with Trust policy including Chemotherapy administration, cannulation, phlebotomy, lab techniques, Intermediate Life Support and other competencies required by the ICRF.
• Advises staff and researchers, acting as a knowledgeable resource on matters relating to clinical practice and research, promoting an active and effective research culture.
• Maintain continuous professional development academically and clinically. Continuously develop your research skills and application of these.
• Maintain up-to-date record of all training activities as required by the ICRF.
• Coordinate own portfolio of clinical studies.
• Deputise for the Lead Nurse when required and work towards assisting in the management of staff attendance, poor performance, disciplinary and grievance issues in the clinical area.
