The Role
Working closely with the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll and supporting the payroll function during the implementation of a new payroll system.
This role is ideal for someone eager to learn, show initiative, and build strong payroll experience within a fast-paced, supportive environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Payroll Clerk, you will:
Process payroll end-to-end with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance
Manage and respond to payroll queries in a timely and professional manner
Support the Payroll Manager with day-to-day payroll operations
Assist with the implementation of a new payroll system
Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, statutory payments, pensions, and payroll legislation
Maintain accurate employee and payroll records
Liaise with HR regarding starters, leavers, and pay changes
Support payroll reporting and audits as required
Assist the Financial Controller and Finance Team with month-end processing
Build strong working relationships across Finance, HR, and the wider nursery network
Redesign and maintain reporting packs to include financial and non-financial metrics
Carry out any additional tasks required to support timely financial processing
Advanced Excel skills are essential for this role.
What You’ll Need
Essential
Experience in a payroll role (Payroll Clerk, Payroll Analyst, or similar)
Good working knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory requirements
Strong numerical skills and exceptional attention to detail
Highly organised with the ability to manage deadlines and priorities
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Experience using payroll systems (implementation experience desirable)
Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the Payroll Manager
Professional, discreet, and trustworthy when handling confidential information
Desirable
Experience within childcare, education, or a multi-site organisation
CIPP qualification or interest in working towards one
