To work in close collaboration withclinical colleagueswho have undergoneenhanced training from the nationalStart for Lifeprogrammes in parent infant and perinatalmental healthinterventions across modalities.
The postholder willhave a key role inenabling other staff, serviceusersand carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
Towork collaboratively with CAMHS under 5s and Perinatal Teams toadviseonand supportthe development of newcare pathways for children,parents,and adultstobetter access specialist provisionandfor service users to be signposted torelevant andappropriate universaltargeted services at the point oftreatment completion.
To undertake service evaluationandauditin collaboration with colleagues inthe Start for4 Life Project Team and specialist mental healthserviceswith theaim of improving access to PIMH services.
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust(SLaM) provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. There are very few organisations in the world that have such wide-ranging capabilities working with mental illness. Our scope is unique because it is built on three major foundations: care and treatment, science and research, and training.
SLaM employ around 5000 staff and serve a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services. Currently, provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Serviceand Teamresponsibilities
1.1Toleadthe provision and delivery of the Perinatal and Infant MentalHealth (PIMH)pathway in the Start for Life programme, provided by Lewisham CAMHS and Perinatal services and tobe a highly specialist practitioner within the assessment,consultation,and treatmentmanagementforinfants (0-2s) and parents withperinatalmental health and co-morbid difficulties.
1.2To work as an independent and autonomous professional within professional guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking full responsibility for own work.
1.3To lead onthe introductionofandmonitoringthe performance of new clinical systems for accepting referrals intoassessment andtreatment, deliveringevidence-basedinterventionsandmodifyingandadapting interventions drawing on a range of theoretical options.
1.4To ensureoptimumliaison and coordination of care for children and familiesbetween primary,communityand secondary care.
1.5Toprovide highlyspecialist consultation and supervisiontodesignatedparent-infant/perinatal community colleagues within the Start to Life Projectand to the wider community workforce asappropriate.
1.6To providerobustInfantand PerinatalMental healthassessments, other specialist assessments, using self-report measures, asappropriate, structuredclinicalobservations, clinical interviews, and to interpret and integrate thishighly complexdata toidentifyand formulate theneedsof infantsandparent-child relationships,and perinatalmental healthpresentations.
1.7To formulate mental healthcare and crisis treatment plans that are specific to each child, parent(s)and family, based upon an analysis of complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes contributing to the presentation. To assess safeguarding issues for each case, consulting with other professionals and referring concerns to theappropriate safeguardingteam asrequired.
1.8To ensurethat evidence-based therapeutic techniques are used within and across theservicesto meet theemotional/mental healthneeds of children under3,and parents with perinatal mental health difficultiesand ensure that staff are adequately trained and supervised to deliver these.
1.9Contribute tomonitoringthe quality of parent-infant assessments and intervention for children under 3 conducted by clinicians within the CAMH and Perinatal teams.
1.10To communicate skilfully, and sensitivelyhighly complex,sensitiveand potentially distressing information with parents, carers and colleagues taking account of sensory and cultural barriers to communication.
1.11Tomaintainthe highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry and recording.
1.12To ensure that all services provided are acceptable and accessible to the diverse communities which make up the catchment area of the service.
2.Professional Leadership
2.1To provide strategic PIMH input at senior level across Lewisham CAMHS and Perinatalservices, ensuring effective advice to theServicemanagers, LeadCliniciansand other management teams.
2.2To take a lead role in PIMH representation at relevant Steering groups and other managementforums for perinatal and infant mentalhealth in the borough.
2.3To act as a supervisor,mentor and offer peer support to colleagues, juniorstaffand trainees in line with Trust values.
2.4Maintain good working relationships and clear lines of communication with all colleagues, professionals,agenciesand departments.
2.5Develop own skills and advise colleagues on good practices for integrated working.
2.6Contribute to the CPD of colleagues and junior staffby providingspecialist teaching, improving knowledge and skills and throughappraisal and appraisal reviews.
2.7To share and develop good practice andpromoteevidence basedpractice.
2.8Toparticipatein the delivery of pre-registration and post-registrationeducation effectivelyin order todeliver Trustobjectives.
3.Teaching, Training and Supervision
3.1To receive regular clinical and professional supervision from a more senior clinician according to Trust guidelines.
3.2 To contribute to the development of the knowledge and skills base withina wide range ofstaffteams within the Trust (Perinatal, CAMHS) and externally with partner agencies.
3.3 To provide professional clinical supervisionto PIMH colleaguesin Perinatal and CAMHSfor all aspects of their work.
3.4 To provide placements totraineesasrequired.
3.5 To provide advice, consultation, training and supervision to staff and parents/carers withinPerinatal andCAMHS network across a range of settings including primary care, social services, education, residentialunitsand family homes.
4.Management, Recruitment,Policyand Service Development
4.1 Toidentifyany aspects of the service which need to be improved and to advise service and professional managers onappropriate changes.
4.2 Toassistin the short-listing and interviewing of multidisciplinary staff asrequired.
4.3Toparticipateinthe on-going development of clinical governance mechanisms acrossPIMH servicesand the Start for Life programmeandinthe process of conductingaudits and implementing service improvement as an outcome of these audits.
1. To undertake Serious Incident investigations as required by the Directorate.
5.Research and service evaluation
5.1 To contribute to the development of services forLewishamCAMHSand Perinatalteamsthrough initiating and undertaking service evaluation and audit.
5.2 To undertake computer-based literature reviews and carry out research relevant to the service in general and provide advice and supervision to other staff undertaking these.
5.3 To contribute to the development of outcome measurement andparticipatein the implementation of the use of same.
5.4 Todisseminateresearch and service evaluation findings through service feedback, presentations and published articles.
5.5 Toparticipatein agreed audit projects and toparticipatein service improvement based on the findings.
