Crynodeb

Wild coastlines, big skies and a close-knit island community set the rhythm of daily life on Islay. The roll of waves, breeze-blown dune grasses, and call of seabirds make up a rich island soundtrack. It’s a haven for people who live and breathe the outdoors. Exhilarating and revitalising, vibrant and relaxed - the wonder of the wilds here is limitless.

Set within this captivating landscape lies Another Place – The Machrie. Originating from the Gaelic term ‘machair’, meaning ‘the linking stretch of land that joins the grassy dunes with the shoreline’, The Machrie offers elevated comforts and unforgettable experiences.

Our Linen Porter role:

We’re looking for lively, practical, and attentive Linen Porter to join our laundry team. You’ll play a vital role within our housekeeping department and will work under the supervision of our Head Housekeeper, alongside our Housekeeping Supervisors and Assistants, to ensure our guests experience a seamless, elegant, and enjoyable stay.

You’ll be confident working behind the scenes, warm and friendly with everyone you meet, and will understand the importance of the work you do. You’ll also be responsible for the distribution, collection, and management of linen throughout the hotel and will ensure that sheets, restaurant linen and towels are maintained and provided for.

This is a seasonal position from February to September with the freedom to experience everything life at The Machrie offers.

As our Linen Porter you’ll be:

∙ Distributing clean linens (sheets, towels, uniforms, table cloths, napkins) to designated areas.
∙ Collaborating with the housekeeping team to ensure that all linen needs are met.
∙ Ensuring that all linens meet hygiene and quality standards.
∙ Collecting linens from collection points and transporting them to the laundry area for cleaning.
∙ Following all safety protocols for heavy loads and the operation of laundry carts.
∙ Responsible for keeping linen cupboards clean, organised, stocked and tidy.
∙ Reviewing stock levels and sorting linens by type.
∙ Tracking linen supplies and reporting any shortages to your line manager.
∙ Participating in linen restocking (as needed).
∙ Ensuring that only the highest quality of linens is circulated within the hotel and removing damaged linen for repair or disposal.
∙ Keeping corridors clean and clutter-free.
Following all health and safety, manual handling and COSHH procedures.
∙ Using appropriate PPE when handling relevant linens and chemicals to prevent cross-contamination.
∙ Working together as part of our committed, efficient and dynamic team.

The skills you’ll be sharing with us:

∙ A good level of physical fitness with the ability to lift, carry, and transport heavy linen loads and carts
∙ Knowledge of hygiene protocols, safety, and infection control (ideally within healthcare environments)
∙ A strong attention to detail
∙ Previous experience in a similar role (training will also be provided)
∙ Happy working under your own supervision as well as part of a team.
∙ Ability to work on own initiative
∙ Excellent time management skills
∙ Experience of housekeeping/laundry in a similar role
∙ A genuine care for our team and our wider community and environment
∙ A valid driving licence and your own transport (essential)

In return for your enthusiasm and commitment, you’ll find yourself in a supportive group of likeminded people with a shared outlook on life - where friendship, connection, flexibility, variety and challenge make every working day worthwhile.

Additional experience you’ll need:

∙ Previous experience of island living, or equivalent (desirable).
∙ A valid driving licence, and relevant driving experience (essential).
∙ Hobbies or interests in the following areas: the outdoors, writing, natural history, marine science, photography, or equivalent (desirable).

Life at Another Place – The Machrie

∙ A welcoming team of like minds, eager to support and encourage each other
∙ Accommodation (as required, dependent on availability)
∙ Excellent career prospects in an ever-expanding organisation
∙ An Islay Living Allowance provided for team members residing off-site
∙ Use of our Championship Links Golf Course (7,000 yards from the back trees, rated one of the world's top 100), regardless of ability
∙ Special rates for you and your friends & family to stay at Another Place – The Machrie, Another Place – The Lake, SeaSpace, and Watergate Bay Hotels
