Crynodeb

We are seeking a motivated individual who is passionate about environmental restoration and protection, and how forestry, trees and woodlands can play a role in tackling climate and biodiversity emergencies. The role contributes to the operational delivery of Landscape Recovery, one of the Government new Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes. This is an exciting, ambitious grant scheme that will leave a legacy of environmental improvements across England.

This role is part of the Forestry Commission’s Environmental Land Management (ELM) team, which sits within the wider National Grants & Regulations (NGR) team. You will be supporting the development and delivery of ambitious and complex Landscape Recovery projects.

Working collaboratively across the Forestry Commission’s national office and operational teams, you will also engage closely with Landscape Recovery partners across Defra, Natural England, and the Environment Agency. This is an opportunity to support the delivery of pioneering projects that restore ecosystems, enhance biodiversity, and support sustainable land use at scale.

By joining the Forestry Commission, you will become part of a team of passionate, committed colleagues, and be able to build on a wealth of expertise to take this ambitious work forward. You will be able to make your mark by helping the Forestry Commission to transform how we work together, reach new stakeholders and achieve ambitious woodland and environmental targets.

We are seeking 1x full-time position. This can be based at any Forestry Commission office across England, with opportunity for blended (between office and home) working arrangements. Occasional travel will be required to meet colleagues and to attend on-site project visits. The post is full time and until 30th Sept 2026, with potential for extension or permanence. Applicants who wish to work an alternative pattern are welcome to apply. You should discuss this with the vacancy holder before applying as your preferred working pattern may not be available.

If you would like to discuss office location, blending working or working patterns please contact: Camilla Morrison-Bell camilla.morrison@forestrycommission.gov.uk

In this role, you will act as a key point of contact for a portfolio of Landscape Recovery projects. This will require you to organise and facilitate meetings between internal and external stakeholders to support project development. You will engage with the Landscape Recovery projects to understand and shape their ambitions, ensuring alignment with the scheme’s objectives and regulatory requirements.

Supporting effective communication of Landscape Recovery across the Forestry Commission, the Landscape Recovery projects and relevant Forest Services teams is crucial to the role. It will require you to build strong working relationships with Forest Services Area staff, other NGR teams, as well as Defra, Natural England and Environment Agency Landscape Recovery teams.

Other key aspects of the role include managing, analysing, and reporting on project information. Maintaining internal systems and contributing to guidance and reporting for Forest Services, Defra, and Natural England. Analysis will also include mapping / GIS work.

This role will also support the delivery of the Landscape Recovery grant scheme, working closely with the ELM Managers to design and implement effective processes. You report directly to an ELM Manager.

Landscape Recovery will be the primary focus of the role, but if required, the postholder may undertake project work to support the development of wider ELM incentives.
