Crynodeb
This post is for a 0.8 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist working within the Islington Early Intervention in Psychosis Mental Health Team as work progresses with the transformation of community mental health services in line with the NHS Long Term plan.
It is available from 1st March 2025. This is a replacement post within this service with the current post holder leaving the service.
The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team working with patient experiences a first episode psychosis in the borough of Islington aged 18 years and over

The post holder will work 8 PAs in the Islington Early Intervention in Psychosis Service, a multidisciplinary team working with patients experiencing first episode psychosis aged 18 years and over and living in the borough of Islington. The patients will be open to the team for 3 years to receive mental health care in line with the Early Intervention in Psychosis model of community care.
North London NHS Foundation Trust was established on 1st November 2024 with the merger of Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust and Barnet, Enfield & Haringey NHS Trust. We are responsible for the provision of Mental Health Services within the London Boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield & Haringey. We also provide NHS Talking Therapies service to Kingston.
As for the new NLFT, our ambition is to be a leading NHS mental health provider and to offer excellent care across North London.
Most of our services are based in the community, but we also provide inpatient mental health services in hospitals. We provide a wide range of local services for people across North London and more specialist mental health services for a broader population. Our services support people throughout their entire lives, from birth to old age, helping those with all types of mental health conditions to live as independently and as well as they can.
The specific clinical and managerial responsibilities of the post-holder will be as follows:
• To provide consultant input and clinical leadership to maintain clinical standards at the Islington Early Intervention in Psychosis Community Mental Health Team
• To assess and manage patients experiencing a first episode psychosis ensuring improved outcomes including outcomes for physical health.
• To assist with diagnosis, formulation, medication reviews, Dialog+ care planning, management plans, risk assessments, safety plans (Formerly crisis plans), and self-help plans as required for these patients referred to the team.
• To provide advice and support to GPs, and other practice staff, regarding the assessment and management of the mental health difficulties of patients registered with their practices. This may be done through case discussions, joint consultations and bespoke training, as appropriate.
• To maintain effective communication with GPs, primary care staff, patients and their carers.
• To work flexibly within timetabled working hours, so that urgent clinical matters can be prioritized.
• To carry out Mental Health Act and domiciliary assessments as required.
• To play a key role in implementing improved linkage between primary and secondary care services.
• To liaise and work closely with local voluntary services as part of the new model of core community teams
• To provide clinical input, where necessary, to multi-disciplinary case conferencing around difficult patients being managed solely in primary care.
• To engage with local service user participation models.
• To participate in management activities and governance processes related to the Islington Early Intervention in Psychosis Team, including audits and quality improvement projects.
• To play an integral role in the performance of the team, the further development of the service, and the development of clinical pathways and priorities of the service line.
