Administrative Assistant – Ophthalmology
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Ophthalmology Department within Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fantastic entry point for anyone looking to start or grow a career in NHS administration.
The role sits within our friendly and supportive administrative team and offers the chance to work across the Ophthalmology service at MSE. We are also open to considering job share arrangements, providing flexibility to suit different circumstances.

We’re looking for someone with a positive, “can-do” attitude, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn. Good keyboard skills and basic computer knowledge are essential, but most importantly, you’ll bring enthusiasm and a proactive approach to supporting our patients and clinical teams.

Answering telephone and face to face queries.
Booking new and follow up appointment using EPR.
Recording clinic outcomes.
Filing and scanning duties.
Understanding 18-week pathways.
Booking patient transport, liaise with portering and ambulance teams.
Review all patient demographics when speaking to them, to ensure EPR is up to date.
Ensuring the patients up to date contact numbers, address and GP details are to date.
To ensure all post is sent out in a timely fashion.
