English & Maths GCSE Tutor - Supporting Vulnerable Learners
We are looking for a compassionate and committed English & Maths GCSE Tutor to work one to one with young people who are not currently accessing mainstream education due to social, emotional, and mental health needs, including anxiety.
This role is ideal for someone who understands that progress looks different for every learner and that emotional safety comes before academic outcomes. Many of the students you'll support have experienced school-related anxiety or disengagement and need a calm, patient adult who can rebuild confidence and trust in learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver GCSE English and/or Maths tuition tailored to individual needs
- Support students with SEMH needs, including anxiety
- Create a safe, and encouraging learning environment
- Adapt teaching strategies to suit emotional and academic needs
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students
- Support students to re-engage with learning at their own pace
Essential Requirements:
- Experience teaching or tutoring English and/or Maths to GCSE level
- A calm, empathetic and non-judgemental approach
- Understanding of SEMH needs (or willingness to undertake training)
- Ability to work flexibly and independently
Desirable:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant tutoring qualification
- Experience in alternative provision, SEND, or home education
- Training in trauma-informed or therapeutic approaches
Contract Details:
- Hours: 8:30am-3:30pm / Part-time / number of days offered can be flexible
- Location: Sefton
- Enhanced DBS required
