Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and organised individual to join our Ward Clerk team within the Surgical Directorate at Wansbeck General Hospital.
The post holder will provide an efficient and effective reception Service for our patients and staff.
This post is a 12 months fixed term position, working 3 days per week, Wed-Fri from 07:30-15:30.
On occasion, it may be necessary to cover Trust wide for service needs.

• To provide a competent and efficient reception service, acting as first point of contact on the telephone or face to face, for patients, visitors and other healthcare professionals.
• To input data regarding all admissions, transfers and discharges onto Patient Administration System correctly.
• To facilitate good communication with other wards and departments involved in patient care or ward/departmental functioning.
• Respond to telephone and email queries in a time appropriate manner.
• To work as a team member within the Ward Clerk team, with guidance from colleagues and the team lead as required.
We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. • Meet and greet patients at the department’s reception desk, ensuring they are clerked in and out of the clinics appropriately using the PAS system.
• Receive and make telephone calls to and from patients and staff, taking messages appropriately and dealing with queries accordingly.
• Manage service electronic mail boxes for follow up appointments.
• Manage departmental Stationary & Uniform ordering.
• Computerised recording and registration of all patient data.
• Support the upkeep and development of department information using information technology and word processing skills.
• Undertake duties to cover for annual leave and sickness of other team members.
