The Role (Flexible – based on your strengths)
We are seeking a CNC Router Machines Tutor to deliver an engaging programme for SEND post-16 learners using BCI-supplied digital fabrication equipment.
Core course focus (CNC Router):
• CNC router set-up and safe operation
• CAD basics (design for manufacture)
• CAM fundamentals (toolpaths, feeds/speeds, workholding strategy)
• Materials and tooling (wood, MDF, acrylic/plastics, composites—where appropriate)
• Workflow: design → toolpath → machining → finishing → quality checks
• Routine maintenance and workshop housekeeping
Optional add-on modules (if within your skillset / timetable):
• Laser engraving / cutting workflows (intro level)
• Consumer 3D printing workflows (intro level)
• Design-to-product mini projects (signage, jigs, simple prototypes, personalised items)
Onboarding and familiarisation training will be provided to the right applicant, so you can confidently deliver both the practical and theoretical aspects of the course to SEND learners.

Key Responsibilities (tailored to your remit)
• Plan and deliver structured, step-by-step sessions (visual supports, checklists, chunked tasks, repetition).
• Teach safe working practices: machine safety, dust/fumes awareness, PPE, emergency stops, supervision and boundaries.
• Differentiate learning for a wide range of SEND needs (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, anxiety, communication needs).
• Track learner progress and record evidence in a simple, consistent way.
• Work with the SENCo/curriculum team to align learning to individual targets and EHCP outcomes (where applicable).
• Maintain a calm, consistent workshop culture with clear routines and positive behaviour support.

Applicant Requirements (Flexible)
We welcome applicants from education, industry, makerspaces, manufacturing, sign-making, product design, or workshop environments.
You could be:
• A vocational tutor/lecturer OR
• A CNC operator/programmer/maker with strong hands-on experience OR
• A CAD/CAM practitioner who can teach patiently and clearly
What matters most
• Confident, safe operation of CNC routers and ability to explain processes simply.
• Basic CAD/CAM workflow understanding (any mainstream software experience is acceptable).
• Strong safety mindset and professional standards in a learning environment.
Desirable (not essential):
• Experience with laser engravers and/or consumer 3D printers
• Experience teaching, coaching, mentoring, or training
• SEND experience (or strong willingness to learn and adapt)
(If you’re the right person but don’t tick every box, we still want to hear from you.)
