Job Overview

The Changeroom Operative is responsible for the daily operation, safety, and cleanliness of multiple changerooms across the Sellafield site. This role is critical to maintaining compliance with nuclear safety standards and supporting the workforce in following safe and effective changing practices when entering or exiting designated buildings.

Main Duties

The postholder will maintain exceptionally high standards of cleanliness across all changerooms, including the cleaning of IMP foot plates and ensuring overall safety within these areas. They will work closely with Health Physics Monitors to uphold nuclear procedures and radiological controls, ensuring that all personnel have access to appropriate clean clothing and suitable changing facilities at all times.

A strong working knowledge of local rules and radiological procedures specific to each changeroom is essential. The role involves daily liaison with the laundry service to ensure the timely delivery of clean garments and the efficient removal of soiled items. Stock levels of clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be monitored and maintained to ensure availability.

The Changeroom Operative will also be responsible for collecting and managing Low Level Waste (LLW) from trace active and active areas. This includes inspecting returned or used garments to identify and remove rogue items such as P4 passes, lab coats, or gloves. Locker access will be managed using key-cutting tools, with access granted only under approved circumstances, and accurate records must be maintained.

Further responsibilities include coordinating active-side coverall and lab coat drops, removing damaged shoes, clothing, and PPE when required, and ensuring adherence to contamination control procedures. The role demands a strong understanding of Sellafield local rules, radiological safety standards, and environmental responsibilities, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with Health Physics and Laundry teams.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will treat others with dignity and respect and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and clients. They will work harmoniously as part of a team, helping to create a positive working atmosphere and build strong, effective working relationships. A strong commitment to meeting internal and external customer expectations is essential, along with the ability to lead by example.

The successful applicant will willingly undertake all tasks, demonstrating flexibility and a readiness to go the extra mile when required. They will complete all duties, including paperwork, accurately and on time, maintaining consistently high standards. A professional attitude and appearance, punctuality, and a strong focus on health and safety—for themselves and others—are essential. The role also requires the ability to use personal initiative appropriately while adhering to established procedures.
