The Acute Medical Unit is a high-energy, fast-paced assessment environment with 48 bedded spaces, supported by a busy Same Day Emergency Care Clinic operating 7 days a week. As a Registered Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and well-organised care, consistently striving for the highest standards. As part of our Emergency Village, you’ll also be instrumental in promoting and supporting patient flow across departments, helping ensure every patient receives timely and seamless care.

With a dedicated AMU workforce of around 100 staff, including five experienced Senior Sisters and an on-site Clinical Educator, you’ll be joining a well-supported and highly motivated team. Our nurses and healthcare assistants work collaboratively, championing excellent patient care and fostering a positive, dynamic environment where you will be welcomed, developed, and valued.

In this role, you will be at the heart of patient care and flow within the Acute Medical Unit and Same Day Emergency Care service. Your responsibilities will be varied, fast-paced, and deeply rewarding, including:
• Leading and supporting the full admission process, ensuring patients are welcomed and assessed efficiently.
• Playing an active role in medicines management to support safe and effective treatment.
• Contributing to proactive discharge planning to support patient flow and timely transitions of care.
• Providing hands-on care to acutely unwell patients, responding quickly and confidently to changing clinical needs.
• Delivering urgent or emergency care and supporting investigations to aid rapid diagnosis and treatment.
• Working closely with the Nurse in Charge to maintain smooth and effective flow through the unit.
• Collaborating with a wide range of multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, holistic patient care.
• Taking part in the running of our Same Day Emergency Care clinic, supporting patients who require rapid assessment and treatment.

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.

For more detail about the role and its responsibilities, we encourage you to explore the full Job Description attached to this advert. It provides a clear picture of what you can expect day-to-day and how you’ll contribute to the smooth running of our service.
