Summary


The role oftheClinicalSupport Worker(CSW)is to support inthedelivery of high-qualitypatient carewho activelyparticipatesin and supports the registered nurses and clinicians in theoutpatient clinics.

The post holder will undertake a range of clinical care duties within the speciality clinics assisting withminor operations as delegated by a Registered Nurse. The CSW will beassistinginaspects of patientpreparation for minor surgery, chaperoning patients,assistingineye assessments, andadministering eye dropsonce competent . ACSW may help withpersonal hygiene, supporting patients to accessappropriate nutrition, providing bowel and bladdercareandmaintainingpatient privacy and dignity at all times.They must have a good understanding ofITandaccessing and the movement of patient medical records paperless and paper



To assistboth the patient and clinician with service delivery and various clinical duties.

Assistpatients inmaintainingtheir personal hygiene,groomingand dressing needs with specific concern for their religious,culturaland personal preference,ensuring privacy and dignity at all times.

Prepare the clinical area for safe practice by ensuring that cleanliness ismaintained, materials and equipment are ready for use, including clearing away afterwards

Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations

Care dutiesmay include,capillaryblood glucose monitoring, pregnancy testing, urinalysis, ECG’s,removal of urinary catheters,Assistingin minor operations, prepping surgical trollies, ANTT,assistingin eye assessments, administering eye drops,woundmanagement ofnon-complex wounds/ basic dressing.

Assistpatients in their mobility requirements,prepare the environment,move and position appropriately to maximise their physical comfort, utilising equipment trained to use and as directed by the multi professional team.

Undertakeanddocumentpatient observations that includes temperature, automated blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, conscious level,height, weight,oxygen saturationlevelsand consciouslevels.

To work effectively within a team andassistinmaintaininga good working atmosphere.

To update the electronic DCS system.

To complete and achieve the Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment.

Assist patients in maintaining their personal hygiene, grooming and dressing needs with specific concern for their religious, cultural and personal preference, ensuring privacy and dignity at all times.

Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations



Care duties may include, capillary blood glucose monitoring, pregnancy testing, urinalysis, ECG’s, removal of urinary catheters, Assisting in minor operations, prepping surgical trollies, ANTT, assisting in eye assessments, administering eye drops, wound management of non-complex wounds / basic dressing.



Assist in the care of patient’s pressure areas and prevention of pressure damage, undertaking risk assessments, and recording and maintaining relevant documentation and escalation as required.

At the delegation of the registered staff member, transfer the patient from one care area to another, including to other hospitals for investigations.

Chaperone the patient as required ensuring appropriate support within clinic rooms.

Actively support and assist in alleviating distress and anxiety of patients, relatives or visitors, consistent with their personal beliefs and preferences. Seeking support from registered staff as needed.

Support patients with dementia/cognitive impairment.

Use a range of techniques for infection prevention and control including waste management, hand washing and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Undertake and document patient observations that includes temperature, automated blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, conscious level, height, weight, oxygen saturation levels and conscious levels (not GCS),

To work effectively within a team and assist in maintaining a good working atmosphere.

Obtain and handle specimens from patients for clinic or laboratory testing.

To maintain clinical records on digital clinical notes system.
