Crynodeb

Client Support

Conduct initial case intake calls and gather relevant background information, key dates, and objectives.
Explain court processes in plain English and help clients understand what to expect at each stage.
Provide non-legal support in relation to court procedure, case management, and next steps.

Court and Hearing Support

Attend hearings (in-person and remote) to provide quiet assistance (note-taking, prompting, helping locate documents).
Assist clients to stay organised, focused, and prepared for hearings and directions.
Documents and Case Preparation
Assist clients to prepare and organise documents for filing and service, including:
position statements, chronologies, schedules of issues, witness statements (client-led content), and exhibit schedules;
hearing bundles (where appropriate) and document indexes;
procedural applications and supporting documents (e.g., directions requests), as instructed.
Ensure documents are appropriately formatted, paginated and compliant with court requirements (as applicable).

Case Administration

Maintain accurate case files, records of communications, and version control of documents.
Assist clients with court portal navigation where relevant (e.g., uploading documents, serving by email where permitted).
Keep clear logs of deadlines, hearing dates, and directions.

Professional Standards

Work strictly within the boundaries of a McKenzie Friend (no conduct of litigation, no rights of audience unless granted, no holding out as a solicitor/barrister).
Maintain confidentiality, neutrality, and professionalism at all times.
Follow internal processes on safeguarding, data protection, and client care.

Essential Requirements

Demonstrable experience supporting litigants in person in Family Court (private/public law children, non-molestation/occupation, or financial remedies).
Strong working knowledge of Family Court procedure and typical hearing stages (FHDRA/DRH/fact-finding/final hearing; directions, disclosure expectations, etc.).
Excellent drafting, formatting and document management skills (Word/PDF pagination, indexing, exhibit labelling).
Strong communication skills with vulnerable or distressed clients; calm under pressure.
High attention to detail and excellent organisation with deadlines.
Comfortable with remote working tools (email, Teams/Zoom, cloud storage).
DBS check (or willingness to obtain, depending on role scope).

Desirable

Prior experience preparing hearing bundles and case summaries.
Familiarity with CAFCASS processes, safeguarding letters, and section 7/16A reports.
Experience supporting domestic abuse cases with safe working practices.
Ability to travel at short notice to local courts.

The successful candidate must:

Reporting / Working Arrangements

You will be allocated cases by McKenzie Friend Service.
You must provide regular progress updates and meet internal QA standards for documents.
Work may include evenings/weekends for document preparation due to court deadlines.
