We are recruiting an Economic Development Officer to work on a range of important projects that will support Canterbury district’s local economy.
We are delivering significant place and people-based projects that will transform the area and develop the local economy – could you play an important role in this transformation? Are you a highly motivated individual who is passionate about making a difference?
About the role
This newly created full time post will be part of a team that will be responsible for delivering a range of exciting projects designed to drive economic growth, support communities, businesses, people and skills development.
Projects will include:
Delivery of day-to-day economic development activities that support local business growth, town centre vitality, inward investment, visitor economy initiatives, and economic analysis;
Lead and support projects arising from the council’s Town Centre Strategies for Canterbury, Herne Bay, and Whitstable, ensuring they contribute to vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable high streets; and
Provide high-quality business engagement and intelligence to inform service priorities and support the operational implementation of externally funded programmes and local growth initiatives.
Early in this role the successful applicant will be focused on the seaside town of Herne Bay, gathering and analysing data on the health of the town centre to assist with future actions to support its renewal. The post will also be act as a conduit for a study into the market offer in Herne Bay, working with a team of consultants to come up with recommendations for future market provision in the town.
The Candidate
You will have demonstrable knowledge and experience of working within an environment that supports a local economy (e.g. improving a place, supporting or assisting businesses or developing people to help them engage in economic activity). You should be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of how these things combine to improve the prosperity of an area.
To thrive in this role will call for strong interpersonal skills especially in working in partnership with others or other collaborative working (e.g. with businesses or organisations) to achieve shared goals.
You should be educated to degree level preferably one related to economics, business, property, planning or public policy. Alternatively, you should have direct experience relevant to local economic development or equivalent.
