Hybrid Working

Join us at the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) as a BI Analyst. This role offers you the chance to make a significant impact by enabling evidence-based decision-making through high-quality insight into the services MaPS funds, who is using them, and the wider debt advice landscape. Acting as the conduit between our data, the Debt Team, and the wider organisation, you’ll deliver timely, accurate, and meaningful analysis that supports MaPS in fulfilling its statutory function. You’ll clean, model, and transform data post-ingestion to produce insightful dashboards and reports, empower colleagues to work more effectively, and drive data maturity across the organisation. You’ll also champion data governance, improve data standards and literacy, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop high-quality data products that support strategic and operational goals.

You’ll be part of a dynamic team dedicated to helping people across the UK improve their financial wellbeing.

Role Overview

The BI Analyst will report directly to Senior Continuous Improvement Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing high-quality Power BI products with engaging visuals that tell the story of the data and provide actionable recommendations to colleagues, including senior leadership
  • Cleaning, modelling, transforming, and analysing data to build robust, well-governed data models
  • Responding to ad hoc insight requests by querying and interpreting relevant data
  • Driving data maturity and improving data management practices both locally and across MaPS
  • Understanding the strategic objectives of the Debt Team and translating them into meaningful insight
  • Collaborating with upstream and downstream teams to ensure the flow of accurate, timely, and comprehensive data
  • Working with internal, supplier, and client data across areas such as operational performance, client profiles, business processes, quality assurance, and outcomes
  • Applying statistical methods and models to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities
  • Reviewing and improving existing data systems and processes
  • Assessing and enhancing the quality of data collection and reporting practices
  • Ensuring compliance with data governance policies and legal requirements around data security

You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience.

Essential:

  • Analytical Expertise: Proven ability to deliver high-quality analysis independently, applying statistical techniques (e.g. forecasting, regression, segmentation) to generate actionable insights and shape project direction.
  • Power BI Proficiency: Skilled in creating engaging dashboards and visuals, with strong DAX capabilities for building robust data models and measures.
  • Data Handling & Tools: Competent in querying and analysing data using DAX, SQL, Python, or other relevant tools; experienced with diverse data sources including spreadsheets, flat files, and relational databases.
  • Data Governance & Management: Sound understanding of data management principles and adherence to high data governance standards.
  • Problem Solving & Judgement: Strong problem-solving skills, including validating outputs, applying judgement, and knowing when to collaborate.
  • Business Acumen & Communication: Ability to quickly grasp business context and translate requirements into clear, compelling data stories for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the debt advice sector in England
  • Background or education in a numerical discipline
  • Experience working with both structured and unstructured data
  • Familiarity with improvement tools and methodologies (e.g. root cause analysis, 5 Whys)
