We are keen to appoint an enthusiastic and committed General Paediatrician with a Special Interest in Diabetes and endocrinology to join the team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. The post is a substantive post to join our existing Consultant team. We provide a clinical service at both the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury and Maidstone Hospital, to a population of approximately 460,000 in West Kent and North East Sussex. The area has very good primary and Grammar schools and good transport links to London (which is reached in approximately 45 minutes by train).


The Consultant role will be expected to work on a 1 in 11 on-call rota. On calls involve on-site cover for paediatrics ED from 2-10 pm. There will be no cover for the neonatal unit expected, as there is a separate rota for neonates. A successful candidate will do 3 clinics per week in their standard weeks.


We would encourage the part-time and job sharers to apply for these jobs. Trust encourages job share and those who want to work part-time. It is a 10 PA job with inclusive of 1.5 PA as SPA. Department will encourage extra roles as Medical students Tutor, Safeguarding lead, etc. These roles will come with additional PAs.

To provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility. This will include any patients referred to you and cared for by you personally or by members of your team, and, in addition, any patients of consultant colleagues when you are covering on-call or for annual leave.


To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments to ensure a high standard of patient care across the Trust.
To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the speciality, to provide high-quality health care to the Trust’s patients, and make a contribution to future thinking about the Trust’s strategic direction.


To participate fully in and share leadership of the clinical governance of the speciality, covering its Trust-wide activities. To attend clinical
governance half-days as detailed in the Trust’s Guide to Job Planning, unless on agreed leave or while attending emergencies

The Department of Paediatrics offers a wide range of general services to children, as well as a number of specialist paediatric services, many of which are shared care services in association with tertiary centres.
The department consists of;


• General Paediatric Bed base of 23 single rooms, including 2 HDU beds
• Level 2 NNU unit with 18 cots and 3 ICU cots
• Ambulatory Unit (Woodlands) is open 7 days a week, 9-000 opening hours
• Ambulatory Unit (Riverbank @Maidstone), which is open 5 days a week, 9-1900 opening hours, supporting the ED unit
• Day Surgery across both sites of the Trust
• Outpatient Clinics across both hospitals of the Trust



Responsibilities include:

To participate actively in departmental audits, sharing coordination of audit activities within the department and implementation of change.
To take an active responsibility for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and supervision.

To assume responsibility, both personally and corporately, with consultant colleagues, for the management of junior medical staff. You are expected to be involved in their professional development, both clinical and personal, as per guidance from the Deanery.
To ensure that all doctors in training for whom you have supervisory responsibilities undertake delegated clinical tasks that are within their level of competence and knowledge.


To ensure at all times that you comply with the General Medical Council’s published guide “Good Medical Practic,” including the Duties of a Doctor
