About the role Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to announce the introduction of these new roles aimed at doctors who are passionate about their practice and their career outside traditional models. An Introduction to the Division/Specialty from Head of Clinical Service An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated doctor to join our department at an exciting time in our Trusts future. The Department offers a supportive and encouraging environment in which to develop as a professional with opportunities to develop in specialist fields. The vacancy has arisen in the Trauma & Orthopaedics department for a senior orthopaedic trainee (preferably post CCT) The post is available to commence from 28th February 2026 for 12 months. This post has been developed as a training opportunity for registrars preferably post CCT before taking up consultant posts. In Mid Yorkshire Hospitals, we perform approximately 1,000 hip and knee replacement surgeries every year and approximately 100 revision hip and knee replacement surgeries. There is opportunity for the arthroplasty fellow to train in performing primary hip and knee replacements whilst at the same time getting exposure to complex reconstructive procedures in hip and knee revisions.The post is not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean, although the duties and shift pattern are exactly the same as the training posts and study leave will be encouraged on an equivalent basis to that which applies to the educationally approved SHOs. The post will have an option of a 1:12 on-call commitment. Main duties The main duties of the post will include: Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases. Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate Out-patient activities/clinics Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings Involvement in relevant administration duties Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities The above list is not intended to be exhaustive, and it is likely duties may be altered from time to time in the light of changing circumstances and after discussion with the post holder. Essential person specification requirements To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria: Full GMC Registration with licence to practise Medical Degree from recognised medical school ATLS, BLS certification Experience at a Registrar level in Trauma & Orthopaedics Eligibility to work in the UK Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving. Possesses good communication skills.
