Owen Payne Recruitment are seeking experienced Rolling Mill Setters / Operators to join a leading Steel manufacturing client located in the Smethwick area (B66).
***Due to the nature of this role, previous experience is essential - please do not apply if you don't have the relevant experience***
Main Duties:
• Set up rolling mill machines according to production specifications, adjusting rollers, guides, and speeds to achieve desired thickness, width, and finish.
• Inspect and prepare materials (such as metal bars, rods, or sheets) before processing to ensure quality and proper dimensions.
• Install and align rollers, guides, and tooling using hand tools, gauges, and measuring instruments.
• Monitor mill operation during production to maintain correct tension, pressure, and temperature.
• Perform test runs and make adjustments to ensure products meet quality and dimensional standards.
• Maintain and clean equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure consistent performance.
• Record production data, such as material type, lot numbers, and settings used for each run.
• Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate protective equipment to ensure a safe working environment.
• Collaborate with maintenance or engineering teams to troubleshoot and repair equipment issues.
• Assist in training new operators or helpers on machine setup and safety protocols.
Shifts:
• Monday to Thursday – 14:00 till 22:30
• Friday - 14:00 till 19:30
Rate of pay:
• £17.12 per hour (Basic)
• Overtime paid up to £34.22 per hour
