Summary
We are seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to take responsibility for technical leadership, design solutions, and the delivery of high-quality structural designs. The role will ensure that all structural outputs meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards while supporting the development of the wider design team.
Key Responsibilities-
Lead and oversee the production of structural design deliverables to ensure compliance with safety and quality requirements

Approve design deliverables, design risk assessments (DRAs), reports, and specifications

Identify efficient and appropriate design solutions through scope review and site visits, and communicate these effectively to clients and project teams

Direct, mentor, and develop engineers, CAD technicians, and graduate staff

Ensure designs comply with relevant technical, professional, and water company standards

Manage and record design changes across project packages
-
Ensure work is delivered using formal processes and procedures

Estimate design hours and support project planning

Attend and present at ALM, KM, and other technical or project meetings

Review, interpret, and brief teams on engineering standards, procedures, and updates

Act as Professional Head of Discipline and Responsible Engineer/CRE on designated projects

Provide technical leadership for projects and tenders, driving continuous improvement in technical standards

Minimum 10 years' structural design experience at Senior or Principal Engineer level

Significant experience in one or more regulated industries, such as:

Rail
-
Water (essential)
-
Oil & Gas
-
Nuclear
-
Highways
-
Bridges
-
-
Degree or HND in Civil or Structural Engineering

Strong IT skills
-
Chartered Engineer status
-
Experience working within regulated water and/or rail industries

Good understanding of construction methods and materials

Knowledge of Engineering Drawing Practices
-
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
