About us

Do you want to join and exciting and dynamic team? This is an additional role to enhance our current support offer to local young people.

This role sits within the Skills and Work team, which provides strategic, operational and commissioning support to Salford young people and residents. Our vision is to provide clear pathways for residents to develop the skills and experience they need to progress into quality and sustainable careers. We do this by focusing on solutions to address barriers for residents participating in education, employment and training. This role is additional to one other existing Transition Mentor in the team.

About the Role
What will you be doing?

Reporting into a Policy and Development Officer, you will play a key role in providing a professional and supportive role to Salford's young people by directly supporting a cohort of young people who are risk of NEET (not in Education, Employment or Training) or those who are already NEET, who need additional support via mentoring to engage in positive post 16 education, employment and training destinations.

Approaching the role with a positive mindset you will:

  • Embed a solution focused attitude to engage young people and their families
  • Be tenacious to supporting young people to recognise their barriers to participating and support them to develop innovative solutions
  • Contribute to the ongoing review and design of the team goals and activities, to further drive outcomes for young people
  • Develop strong partnerships across multiple partners, to advocate for young people and work towards a 'whole system' approach to supporting young people at key transition points

About you

We are seeking a creative individual who wants to make a difference through:

  • Developing effective and supportive relationships with young people and families to motivate and inspire young people
  • Modelling the Salford City Council core values and behaviours
  • Building strong multi agency relationships and communicative effectively
  • Having experience in a mentoring, counselling or related field
  • Working on their own initiative to develop solutions in partnership with others

Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check currently £49.50. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £12.38 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £49.50.
