We are seeking a clinically qualified educator to lead the Clinical & Professional Practice (CPP) module within Phase 1 of our MBBS programme. This role is central to shaping students early clinical experiences, professional identity formation, and foundational skills in patient care. The successful candidate will bring clinical credibility, educational leadership, and a commitment to embedding human values and social purpose into medical training. The key responsibilities of the post will be the leadership, management and co-delivery of CPP module content throughout the MBBS programme in accordance with the GMC regulations, University requirements, and the SoM contingent partner ULAN. The role addresses all aspects of the CPP module through the entire MBBS, including teaching, digital learning, assessment and student support. The post holder will work closely with the SoM leadership team and will have line management responsibility for staff delivering CPP teaching. They will lead on CPP curriculum adaptation and design, practical demonstrations, development and delivery of teaching, assessment and evaluation. They will work closely with the Phase 1 and 2 Leads and the Director of Undergraduate Medicine to ensure continuity and alignment of CPP across both Phases and with the other MBBS modules (IASCM, and MedSoc). The postholder will collaborate to demonstrate links between these modules and the application of sciences to clinical work, for example in interprofessional learning and work, and the principles and practice of informed consent. The postholder should be adept at using digital technology, completing work-based assessments and supporting tutors in adopting these teaching and assessment approaches. The postholder should also understand equal opportunity issues as they may impact on academic content and issues relating to students needs. Module Lead for CPP Duties Lead, manage and oversee development and delivery of the CPP components of the curriculum throughout the MBBS, co-ordinating the lectures, workshops, practical demonstrations, formative and summative(OSCE)assessments. Lead, develop and evaluate the practical and simulated sessions as well as supporting educators and students in using digital technology in teaching revision & assessments. Oversee the delivery of work-based and university teaching and assessment of CPP and the alignment across both Phases of the MBBS programme. Collaborate with academics at SMU to develop co-teaching and co-learning opportunities, and Interprofessional Learning. Work with Phase Leads, other Module Leads and colleagues and Estates to ensure adequate teaching delivery and spaces are available for students throughout the MBBS programme. Oversee the recruitment and line management of supporting tutors and Lecturers where needed. Ensure CPP content aligns with GMC requirements and the contingent partner curriculum. Contribute to the development, delivery and proactive review of all aspects of CPP content of the MBBS Programme, including curriculum, summative and formative assessment and student support, and to contribute to the regular quality assurance visits undertaken by the GMC to the new programme. Responsible for the quality assurance, evaluation, research and innovation and scholarly activity related to CPP across both Phases. Work with the Phase, Module and Assessment Leads, and other colleagues on the design, development and implementation of relevant IT systems, in-course assessments, written examinations and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs). Contribute questions, validation and work with the Single Best Answer (SBA) question group to develop a robust SBA question bank for MBBS students. Participate in the student admission process: open days, outreach, recruitment, and selection events (including participation as an assessor in MMIs (multiple mini-interviews) as required. Senior Lecturer Duties Teaching Identify, promote and deliver, innovative and inclusive practice in teaching and learning through programme design, teaching delivery, technological innovation and coaching Contribute to initiatives which identify new and best practice in teaching Conduct and disseminate the outcomes of research into teaching methods and the learning process, promoting outcomes through peer review bodies Develop and maintain an understanding of research in the subject, discipline and/or teaching and learning to inform professional activity Engage in the pastoral care provided to students within the subject area, and resolve issues or concerns which have been escalated Achieve a minimum D2 UKPSF (Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, FHEA)or equivalent recognised teaching standard Leadership Contribute to the management, academic leadership, mentoring and administration of the Faculty or Department to facilitate the delivery of high-quality teaching, research, and/or enterprise and engagement Provide collegiate leadership where required across the University and its community. This would reasonably include: participating in University/Faculty level committees, Health and Safety, Quality Assurance, Diversity and Inclusion and actively supporting the University's values and project manage initiatives Represent and contribute to the University's mission and ethos Support and develop key staff and line reports both pastorally and professionally Typical Academic Duties: Contribute to collaborative links with other programmes/modules, and to the collegiate life of the School of Medicine and University. Teach as a member of the teaching team at an undergraduate (and postgraduate) level, across a range of modules or within a subject area and contribute to the delivery of cross departmental modules (where appropriate). Teach in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures. Develop internal and external networks. To form relationships for future collaborations, for example, secure student placements and build relationships for future activities. Identify learning needs of students and define appropriate learning objectives and ensure that these are met through content, methods of delivery and learning materials. Contribute/lead the planning and design of new modules and new delivery modes to support curriculum development across a range of modules/programmes. Supervise the work of students (including projects, clinical observation trips and where appropriate, placements) and provide advice and support on study skills and help with learning problems. Continually improve and enhance teaching design and delivery by reflecting on own teaching practice and obtaining and analysing feedback from students and peer observation. Select formative and summative assessment methods/approaches to monitor and measure students work against learning objectives. Mark and assess students work and monitor their progress by reference to the assessment criteria, providing timely and effective feedback in line with university quality standards. Undertake the pastoral and academic care of students through the academic and personal tutor role, referring students to professional services where appropriate. Collaborate on research projects with other academic staff in the Faculty and across the University Act as a module leader and co-ordinate with others (academic and professional service staff) to ensure student needs and the operational requirements of the module or programme are met. Act as a responsible team member, leading where agreed and develop productive working relationships with other members of staff. Represent and contribute to the University's mission and ethos.
