Neway International are seeking a Social Worker to join our client Cardiff Council within the Learning Disabilities team.

Location: Market Road Day Centre, Cardiff
Hours: 37 per week (09:00 – 17:00)
Start Date: 5 January 2026
End Date: 6 April 2026
Pay Rates: PAYE £18.26 per hour / Limited/Umbrella £23.79 per hour

The Learning Disabilities team plays a vital role in delivering tailored support to vulnerable individuals and their families.

The Role
We are recruiting one qualified Social Worker to provide support within the Learning Disabilities team. This is a temporary assignment to cover a vacant post.

The successful candidate will assess, plan, and review services for adults with learning disabilities, working closely with families, carers, and partner organisations to ensure needs are met and risks are managed effectively.

Key Responsibilities
Assess needs, risks, and options for individuals with learning disabilities.

Develop, implement, and review care plans to enhance independence and coping skills.

Work actively with carers to identify and meet their support needs.

Participate in decision-making forums and duty rotas as required.

Prepare clear written and verbal accounts of casework issues.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, using supervision and support to improve practice.

Record and share client data in line with Council policy and procedure.

Contribute to service planning and outcome delivery within the team.

Candidate Requirements
Essential:

Degree in Social Work or equivalent.

Current registration with Social Care Wales.

Experience of working with adults with complex needs.

Knowledge of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act and Mental Capacity Act.

Strong assessment, risk analysis, and advocacy skills.

Ability to communicate effectively and creatively with vulnerable adults.

Commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.

Full valid driving licence and access to a car.

Desirable:

Experience managing a varied caseload.

Understanding and experience of safeguarding vulnerable adults.

Ability to use IT systems effectively.

Welsh or community language skills.
