The Teaching Assistant Level 3 supports the educational and personal development of pupils within the school environment. This role requires a proactive approach to assist teachers in delivering quality education and ensuring all pupils, including those with special needs, receive necessary support.
Main Duties
Support for Pupils
1. Work with groups of children under teacher supervision, delivering therapy and implementing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
2. Provide pastoral support, ensuring emotional and social needs are met.
3. Supervise pupils who are excluded or not working to a normal timetable.
4. Attend to personal needs, including minor first aid, and provide advice on social, health, and hygiene matters.
5. Participate in assessing pupils to identify those needing additional support.
6. Assist in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans.
7. Support pupils with special educational needs, ensuring inclusion in classroom activities.
8. Establish productive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model.
9. Encourage effective transitions for pupils, promoting choices about learning and behaviour.
10. Challenge and motivate pupils, reinforcing self-esteem and confidence.
11. Provide constructive feedback on progress and behaviour.
12. Promote inclusion and acceptance within the school community.
13. Encourage cooperation among pupils and engage all learners.
14. Assist with medication dispensing in exceptional circumstances, following training.
15. Support pupils on integration placements and during work experience.
Support for Teachers
18. Assist in maintaining a safe classroom, checking materials for defects, and implementing risk assessments.
19. Prepare the classroom for lessons and clear away afterwards.
20. Liaise with therapists and other professionals to coordinate programmes of work.
21. Gather pupil information by liaising with schools and relevant bodies.
22. Support access to learning through appropriate strategies and resources.
23. Collaborate with the teacher in planning and adjusting learning activities.
24. Monitor pupil responses to learning activities through observation.
25. Provide accurate feedback and reports on pupil achievement and progress.
26. Assist in developing behaviour management strategies.
27. Assist in monitoring systems related to attendance and integration.
28. Provide clerical support related to the curriculum.
Support for the Curriculum
32. Support across all curriculum areas for pupils with medical conditions.
33. Implement agreed learning activities, adjusting as necessary.
34. Prepare specialist equipment and resources to support pupils effectively.
Support for the School
36. Ensure compliance with processes to overcome barriers to learning.
37. Adhere to Child Protection procedures and report concerns.
38. Assist in maintaining high health and safety standards.
39. Foster good relationships with colleagues and collaborate as a team.
40. Support diversity and ensure equal access to learning opportunities.
41. Attend and participate in regular meetings.
42. Engage in training and learning activities as required.
43. Attend review meetings for pupils with disabilities, providing information on access issues.
All specified teaching work will be within the framework of the school’s Scheme of Supervision in line with the 2003 Regulations and amended Regulations 2007. The Head Teacher will ensure support staff possess the necessary skills. A Teaching Assistant Level 3 may cover classes during short-term teacher absences, involving planning, preparation, assessment, and reporting.
The Teaching Assistant must carry out their duties with regard to the Governing Body and City Council Policies. If the post holder has a disability, efforts will be made to provide necessary aids and adaptations. If certain tasks prove unachievable, job redesign will be considered.
