Summary
We are thrilled to announce the launch of Melrose High Support Rehabilitation Ward, a groundbreaking addition to West London NHS Trust. This will be the first female-Level 2 specialist mental health rehabilitation service in North West London. Based at The Orchard Unit in Ealing, this 10-bedded ward will deliver intensive, trauma-informed and gender sensitive care for women with complex mental health needs- particularly those whose recovery has been challenging in previous placements or who are returning from out-of-area care.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape a new service from its very beginning. You’ll work within a structured therapeutic model, alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team from disciplines including psychiatry, psychology, nursing, occupational therapy and social work. Together, you’ll support service users to build confidence, develop essential life skills and transition successfully to community living. Our approach combines psychological therapies, occupational interventions and a strong therapeutic community ethos, creating an environment where recovery and independence are at the heart of everything we do.

The Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the team based within the Women’s Service to lead the first North West london (NWL) -wide, female-only Level 2 High Support Rehabilitation service at Melrose ward.
This vacancy has arisen due to new investment from NWL Integrated Care Board because of a growing need for placements for female patients with complex care needs, who are increasingly being placed in independent sector placements- which is socially dislocating and comes at a significant cost to the NHS.
This post will comprise of 6 sessions on Melrose Ward, a non-forensic service, housed within The Orchard- a unit which provides high-quality care for women who have mental illness, or complex emotional needs within a secure setting.
The appointee will lead the team, working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues and a range of external stakeholders. Referrals will be subject to gatekeeping by the North West London Complex Care and Inpatient Rehabilitation Referral Panel. The panel will oversee all rehabilitation referrals, ensuring streamlined processes and consistent decision-making.
The Post holder will lead the MDT in guiding and developing the culture and ethos of the ward.
