Job Description
Family Support Workers at Primrose Family Care provide high-quality care, support, and assessment to families. They work directly with parents to ensure children’s safety and well-being, support parenting skills, and contribute to fair assessments. They collaborate with senior staff, social workers, and other professionals to deliver evidence-based support and create a nurturing environment. Responsibilities include assisting in family and parenting assessments, supporting routines and care, safeguarding children, and maintaining relationships. They must comply with standards such as the Children’s Act 1989 and the Residential Family Centres Regulations 2002, and perform tasks including home maintenance, documentation, and risk management.
Applicants should hold a childcare or social care qualification, understand safeguarding, manage stress effectively, and be committed to professional growth. Flexibility, resilience, and strong communication skills are essential.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Education:
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Childcare, Health and Social Care, or willingness to undertake it.
• Experience: working with children and families; partnership and multi-agency work; residential setting (desirable).
• Knowledge: safeguarding children and young people; assessment framework; emotional and challenging behaviours; relevant legislation including Children Act 1989, Working Together 2023, Data Protection Act 2018; policies for residential centres; care planning; familiarity with mental health, substance misuse, and domestic abuse (desirable).
Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Good communication skills.
• Capable of planning, documenting, and evaluating work.
• Effective with adults and children.
• Builds positive relationships with families and colleagues.
• Responds non-judgmentally to family needs.
• Manages risk well.
• Has basic domestic skills like cooking and cleaning.
• Ensures safeguarding continuity.
• Manages stress and complex situations with resilience.
• Develops community and multi-agency relationships.
• Writes high-quality reports with strong case management skills.
• Proficient in computers.
• Ensures training is current.
• Managing complex family issues and unpredictable behaviour.
