Vacancy for a Tutor in Pedagogical Framework. Evidence-Based Practice Tutor (SEND / Post-16)
Start date: Monday 5 January 2026
Location: British Creative Institute (BCI) – Birmingham & Walsall faculties
Contract type: Flexible agreement (sessional/part-time) or fixed employment (term-time/permanent, by agreement)
About British Creative Institute (BCI)
British Creative Institute is a specialist post-16 provision supporting learners with SEND through personalised programmes and Individual Education Plans (IEPs). We combine creative, vocational pathways with core learning to help students develop confidence, independence, and meaningful progression.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Tutor who can demonstrate strong Evidence-Based Practice and confidently teach using recognised pedagogical frameworks—particularly:
• Carol Dweck – Growth Mindset: building resilience, confidence, and positive attitudes to challenge
• Vygotsky – Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD): structured scaffolding with planned gradual release to independence
• Piaget – Cognitive Development: aligning strategies to developmental readiness so learning is meaningful and retained
You will deliver high-quality teaching aligned to learners’ IEP outcomes, with clear evidence that your practice translates into measurable progress.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver engaging lessons that reflect evidence-based pedagogy and SEND-informed practice
• Use scaffolding, modelling, explicit instruction, feedback and retrieval strategies appropriately
• Translate IEP targets into lesson-level outcomes and adaptive teaching approaches
• Collect and maintain clear evidence of progress (learning plans, interventions, assessments, work samples, observation notes)
• Differentiate effectively (task design, pacing, communication supports, assistive tools)
• Work collaboratively with the SENCo, pastoral staff, and wider team to support regulation, attendance and learner engagement
• Maintain high safeguarding, professional conduct, and documentation standards
Essential Criteria
Applicants must have:
• A recognised teaching qualification, such as:
o QTS, PGCE/PGDE, CertEd, or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) (or equivalent)
• Minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths (GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent)
• Demonstratable evidence of teaching that aligns to pedagogical deliverables (e.g., lesson plans showing scaffolding/ZPD, feedback cycles, growth mindset language, adaptive strategies, assessment evidence)
• Experience teaching in at least one of the following contexts: SEND, alternative provision, post-16, SEMH/ASD-informed settings
• Strong classroom practice with the ability to build rapport, routines, and learner confidence
• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check and follow safeguarding procedures
Desirable (Essential)
• Experience supporting learners with ASD, SEMH, anxiety, sensory needs, or communication differences
• Functional Skills delivery (Entry Level–Level 2) or vocational/creative curriculum experience
• Training in trauma-informed practice, Team Teach/positive handling, or de-escalation approaches
• Familiarity with EHCP outcomes and review documentation
What We Offer
• A supportive SEND-specialist environment with strong pastoral focus
• Flexible working patterns (where possible) across Birmingham and/or Walsall
• Opportunity to shape high-impact teaching practice rooted in educational theory
• Collaborative team culture focused on learner progress and wellbeing
