We have an exciting opportunity for a Quality Technician to join our team based in our Processing plant. This post is offered on a full time, permanent basis.
About the job
Ensure that all products manufactured meet food safety, quality and customer specification requirements through effective laboratory testing, product evaluation, environmental monitoring, and production-line support. The role supports both routine quality control (QC) and microbiological laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and third-party certification schemes.
In this role, your main responsibilities will include:
Product Quality Control
- Carry out routine quality checks on raw materials and finished products.
- Verify product weight, grading, quality standards, labelling, packaging, and organoleptic characteristics (appearance, smell, texture).
- Perform CCP and QCP checks in line with the site HACCP plan.
- Document and communicate non-conformances and support corrective actions.
- Assist in product shelf-life testing and sensory panels.
Laboratory Analysis
- Conduct microbiological testing (e.g., TVC, Enterobacteriaceae, Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli or other analyses.
- Prepare media, reagents, and samples following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Carry out environmental monitoring including swab testing, hygiene verification, visual checks, and water testing.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments (balances, incubators).
- Record, trend, and report laboratory results with accuracy and traceability.
Process & Hygiene Support
- Support hygiene verification including pre-operational inspections and post-clean assessments.
- Investigate sources of contamination using tools such as UV fluorescence, swab mapping, and root-cause analysis.
- Review sanitation and water treatment chemicals used (e.g., chlorine dioxide, and verify correct dosing.
Quality System & Documentation
- Participate in internal audits, traceability exercises, and external customer or regulatory audits.
- Assist in writing and updating SOPs, test methods, and quality instructions.
- Ensure all samples and records meet traceability and retention standards.
The ideal Candidate
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of microbiology, chemistry or food science.
- Experience with laboratory techniques and hygienic sampling.
- Familiarity with food safety standards (HACCP, BRCGS, standards).
- Ability to interpret analytical data and identify trends.
- Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Personal Skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Proactive approach to problem solving.
