Northern Education Trust (NET) is a charitable education Trust with a good track record for school improvement. The Trust sponsors 30 academies; 17 secondary and 13 primaries across the North of England in fourteen Local Authority regions.

Essa Academy is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate Teacher of Science as soon as possible.

This is a Teacher of Science role, but there are lots of opportunities for professional development and training both within and outside the department.

The Science Team is a strong, friendly team of professionals who believe in child centred education. The Science Department has volunteered as one of the teams to lead the introduction of new learning techniques in the NET Academy. We are looking for someone who is willing to join us on this journey, and has a passion for adaptive teaching, open to learning and developing their skills.

Essa is an Ofsted “good” school with a fully resourced and planned science curriculum. We are proud of our supportive and successful Science Department, where results continue to be among the best in local authority. Last year, over 68% of our science students achieved a GCSEs grade 4 or above and 57% achieved two science GCSEs at grade 5 or above. All of our lessons are fully resourced with student booklets, minimising unnecessary staff workload is a priority.

The successful candidates, called to interview, will be excellent classroom practitioners who are able to inspire and motivate our young people to fulfil their potential. They will demonstrate the drive and skill to raise standards of students' attainment and achievement. Ideally candidates will be able to show how they have achieved this in their current post and can provide data to illustrate this.

Candidates must detail how they intend to monitor and track student progress within their classes, setting high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge students. We expect our team to be able to promote good progress and outcomes by students, demonstrating good subject and curriculum knowledge.

Behaviour at Essa is good, but we would expect candidates to be able to manage behaviour effectively, to ensure a good and safe learning environment and fulfil wider professional responsibilities.

Northern Education Trust offers:

The opportunity to work and progress across the family of schools, should you wish in the future;

The chance to apply for leadership roles in the Deeps structure taking on a whole school leadership project;

The support and expertise of Director of Subjects.

A full and detailed programme of support and development for all;

A further comprehensive programme of professional development, including leadership, provided through the NET Staff College.

Employee benefits

Free flu vaccinations

Free onsite parking

In accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024, an online search will be completed on all shortlisted applicants prior to interview. Any relevant information will be discussed further with the applicant during the interview process.

The Trust is committed to considering flexible working requests.

The Trust is committed to safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. All posts are subject to enhanced disclosure and barring service checks. We expect all adults to share our commitment to safeguarding and the health and wellbeing of our pupils.
