Job Description:
Join Our Housing Team as a Support Coordinator
Location: We currently have two vacancies: one based at our new Bunnyhill office (SR5) and another at our Doxford Park office. Please note that our Support Coordinators operate across the City of Sunderland, so your primary office location may change depending on service needs.
We’re excited to offer 2 fantastic opportunities within our Housing teams, following internal promotions. The role of a Support Coordinator is ideal for someone passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives and who understands the challenges faced by social housing providers and their customers.
As a Support Coordinator, you’ll play a vital role in helping customers sustain their tenancies and live well in their homes. You’ll deliver proactive and responsive support, offering practical advice and life skills that empower individuals to manage their homes independently and confidently. If you’re a team player who thrives on problem-solving and supporting others, we’d love to hear from you.
This position is subject is an enhanced DBS which will be arranged and funded by Gentoo.
You’ll need to be willing and able to travel across Sunderland to meet the needs of the role. While having a valid driver’s licence is highly desirable, it’s not essential — we just ask that you can reliably fulfil the travel requirements.
What you’ll be doing:
Deliver person-centred support that empowers customers to set and achieve their goals, while always promoting dignity, respect, and safety.
Assess individual needs and connect customers with the right support, working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
Help customers sustain their tenancies by providing guidance on rights and responsibilities, managing your own caseload and reviewing progress regularly.
Keep accurate, timely records and ensure compliance with legislation and organisational standards.
Identify potential vulnerabilities early and take proactive steps to provide support.
Work flexibly as part of a team, attending partnership meetings and representing the organisation professionally.
Build strong relationships with external agencies to help customers access specialist services and holistic support.
Contribute to service improvements through feedback, data analysis, and best practice.
Support safeguarding processes, produce reports, and assist with training delivery.
Stay up to date with legislation and best practice to ensure the highest standards of service.
What you’ll bring:
A good understanding of the challenges facing social housing providers and their customers, including issues around substance misuse and mental health.
Knowledge of housing policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including Tenant Satisfaction Measures.
Proven experience delivering excellent customer service and working flexibly in challenging situations.
Strong relationship-building skills with the confidence to professionally challenge partners when needed.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently, using your own initiative.
Self-motivated, resilient, and able to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
Willingness to travel across Sunderland and work flexibly to meet the needs of the role.
