Summary
There are currently 5 TEGS Consultants who will support the Fellow. These Consultants also undertake a range of elective practice including abdominal wall, colorectal and upper GI surgery, and will provide elective training in these areas. There will also be opportunities for the Fellow to maintain their skills in upper and/or lower GI endoscopy. The Trust was designated a Major Trauma Centre in April 2011 in line with national recommendations for the planning and provision of care for seriously injured patients. In addition to providing access to all surgical specialties (including Cardiac Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery and Neurosurgery) the Trust also has an outstanding 24/7 Interventional Radiology department and more than 100 Intensive Care beds. The Royal Centre for Defence Medicine is based at UHB. Military casualties from abroad are airlifted to the Unit once they have been stabilised and usually are under the care of the dedicated trauma teams. The Royal Centre for Defence Medicine is fully integrated into the Trust, and military personnel work in all departments, with emphasis on SAU and ITU.
