Crynodeb
We have placed innovation at the heart of our business plan over the last three years and have made excellent progress towards becoming a fully digital publisher. You’ll work with newsletter and social media marketing campaigns, identify actionable data insights to grow and monetise our digital audience, and contribute directly to our subscription strategy.
The three key outputs and outcomes are:
Outputs
- Create and deliver a digital marketing plan for the content produced in our Shetland newsroom.
- Create and deliver a reader/non-reader feedback programme.
- Create social media content for the newsroom to support editorial output and audience growth.
You will be a key point of communication for customers, ensuring their digital experiences are maximised.
The graduate role will allow us to place greater focus on our Shetland newsbrand and support its development into a truly digital-first title, including contributing to the creation of engaging social media content that strengthens our editorial output.
The graduate will gain experience working with colleagues across the business and at all levels. Our organisational size and flat management structure mean that recommendations and strategies proposed by the graduate can be quickly approved and make an immediate impact.
This is a one year graduate placement and our ambition is that this post becomes a critical long-term role in the business, with a salary that reflects this, and the intention for it to become permanent.
HNM operates a hybrid approach to home/office working – two days working from home and three days from our Shetland office. We continue to evolve our internal communication strategy to ensure all colleagues feel informed, included and motivated.
The graduate will be part of the content marketing team and managed by our multimedia manager and audience team. This includes clear KPIs, structured weekly planning, regular one-to-ones, and involvement in newsroom meetings. They will also work closely with editorial colleagues to produce engaging social media content tailored to Shetland audiences.
All IT equipment required to carry out the role will be supplied, including a Chromebook, additional screen, keyboard and mouse for home working, and a mobile phone.
The graduate will take part in a three-day onboarding course upon joining HNM. Given the importance of this role, the graduate and their line manager will also meet with the Managing Director once a month to review progress.
