Job Purpose
The Clinical Supervisor & Psychological Therapist will provide high-quality clinical supervision to psychology students and trainees, alongside
delivering evidence-based psychological therapies to clients presenting with a wide range of mental health difficulties. These include post-
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorders, depression, phobias and avoidance behaviours, sleep disorders, adjustment
disorders, and psychological reactions to chronic pain or physical injury.
The role promotes safe, ethical, trauma-informed practice while supporting the professional development of future psychology practitioners.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Supervision
Provide structured, reflective clinical supervision to psychology students and trainees in line with professional and ethical standards.
Support supervisees in developing skills in assessment, formulation, intervention, and risk management across a range of mental health
presentations.
Monitor clinical practice to ensure high-quality, safe, and effective therapeutic work.
Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and formal assessments where required.
Therapeutic Practice
Deliver evidence-based psychological therapies to individuals experiencing:
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Anxiety disorders
Depression
Phobias and avoidance behaviours
Sleep disorders
Adjustment disorders
Psychological reactions to chronic pain or physical injury
Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and develop collaborative, person-centred formulations and treatment plans.
Apply trauma-informed and integrative therapeutic approaches tailored to individual client needs.
Regularly review progress and adapt interventions to support recovery and wellbeing.
Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational requirements.
Safeguarding and Risk Management
Identify, assess, and manage clinical risk including self-harm, suicidal ideation, and safeguarding concerns.
Support students in recognising and responding appropriately to risk and ethical dilemmas.
Escalate safeguarding concerns in line with statutory and organisational procedures.
Professional Practice and Service Development
Adhere to professional codes of ethics, clinical governance standards, and organisational policies.
Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) and reflective practice.
Contribute to service evaluation, quality improvement, and best-practice initiatives.
Qualifications and Professional Registration
Essential:
Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or a related applied psychology discipline.
Registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., HCPC, BACP, UKCP, or equivalent).
Recognised qualification or formal training in clinical supervision.
Desirable:
Specialist training in trauma-focused or evidence-based therapies (e.g., TF-CBT, EMDR, CBT for insomnia or pain, or similar).
Knowledge and Experience
Significant post-qualification experience delivering psychological therapy to adults or young people with diverse and complex mental health
needs.
Demonstrable experience working with:
PTSD and trauma-related disorders
Anxiety and depressive disorders
Phobias and avoidance behaviours
Sleep disorders
Adjustment disorders
Psychological responses to chronic pain or physical injury
Experience providing clinical supervision to psychology students, trainees, or early-career practitioners.
Strong understanding of ethical practice, safeguarding, and risk management.
Skills and Competencies
Strong clinical assessment, formulation, and therapeutic intervention skills.
Excellent supervisory, mentoring, and teaching abilities.
Ability to manage complexity, uncertainty, and emotional distress.
