Do you want to change lives while building a rewarding and meaningful career?
We are looking for compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistants to join a growing education team at a leading Specialist school. As student numbers increase, we are expanding-and this is your chance to be part of a truly special community.
NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - FULL TRAINING PROVIDED.
About the RoleThis is very different from a mainstream TA position. You will be working with students aged 5-19 who have severe social communication difficulties, complex learning disabilities, and often challenging behaviours.
Your goal is to help students access therapy-based education, develop essential life skills, and achieve the highest level of independence possible, preparing them for life beyond school or college.
What the Role Involves:
-
Small Class Sizes: Working in classes of 5-11 students, grouped by ability and social needs rather than age.
-
Core & Life Skills: Supporting literacy, numeracy, and science, alongside practical skills like cookery and gardening.
-
Communication Support: Helping students communicate using Makaton, signs, symbols, or communication aids through a multi-sensory approach.
-
Behavioural Support: Providing guidance when students feel anxious or frustrated and supporting them to manage their feelings (Team Teach Positive Behaviour Support).
-
Personal Care: Some students require personal care (to stay clean and comfortable), for which full training is provided.
Learning never stops here. We offer a defined career path with funded qualifications.
-
Apprenticeship: All TAs participate in a twice-weekly training programme (theory and practical) leading to a nationally accredited Teaching Assistant apprenticeship, fully funded by the school.
-
Induction: Complete Team Teach Positive Behaviour Support Training before you start.
-
Progression:
-
Senior Teaching Assistant: Salary rises to £21,851 - £23,999 Actual (£25,476 - £27,981 FTE) after completing the apprenticeship and two years of service.
-
HLTA: Opportunities to progress to Higher Level Teaching Assistant roles with actual salaries up to £27,715 (£32,313 FTE).
-
We offer a supportive workplace focused on your wellbeing and financial growth.
-
Retention Bonus: £1,000 Total (£250 after 1 month, £250 after 1 year, £500 after 18 months).
-
Food & Parking: Free hot lunch during term-time and free on-site parking.
-
Health: Life Assurance and Medical Cash Plan (after qualifying period).
-
Support: Employee Assistance Service (24/7 confidential wellbeing/counseling) and access to Mental Health First Aiders/Occupational Health.
-
The Site: Work on a beautiful 23-acre site in a semi-rural setting on the edge of the Surrey Hills.
36 hours per week (Term time only).
-
Monday: 08:30 - 16:00
-
Tuesday - Thursday: 08:30 - 16:15
-
Friday: 08:30 - 15:45
-
Includes 30 minutes admin time per week.
You do not need previous experience. We prioritize empathy, compassion, resilience, and a "can-do" attitude.
Essential Requirements:
-
Literacy & Numeracy: Sufficient skills to support student learning and complete essential records.
-
Resilience: Physical, mental, and emotional resilience to meet the demands of supporting young people with complex/challenging behaviours.
-
Communication: Strong skills for interacting with children, families, and professionals.
-
Personal Care: Willingness to provide personal care for students who require assistance.
-
Transport: Own transport is highly desirable due to the semi-rural location.
-
Visa Status: We do not offer sponsorship. We cannot accept applications from candidates requiring sponsorship or graduate visa conversion.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This position requires an enhanced DBS check and reference checks.
