Job Summary:
Responsible for preparing estimates and securing orders using associated factors such as labour, materials, machinery requirements and location, conceptual estimation, cost analysis, coordination and consolidation, conducts independent work requiring judgment, selection, application, adaptation of structural design and engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
Assists other employees in devising new approaches to problems, modifying drawings, specifications, calculations, and monitors works ensuring complete understanding of design documents, construction cost, constructability, and schedule implications of design choices in compliance with the applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and quality standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manage and Maintain Enquiry Log and MBA for all incoming enquiries and quotations sent out.
2. Build up project estimates through analysis of required materials and resources necessary to complete the project.
3. Interpret drawings using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills and experience, materials and symbols on blueprints and apply construction specifications in conformance with the project and client’s specifications.
4. Form and maintain relationships with all customers and secure new orders for the business.
5. Analyses civil and structural engineering plans, designs and layouts and other factors that can affect costs, such as location, material labour, workers, and duration of the project, machinery and equipment.
6. Utilize cost estimation methods to perform take-offs of labour, time, material and equipment to develop accurate estimates and risks involved in the project.
7. Assist in analysing Vendor’s quotations.
8. Process submittals, RFI’s and design changes which affect project estimations.
9. Discuss with Managers, Supervisors and/or the client for project estimating issues and recommend appropriate advice to complete the specific areas of works.
10. Assist Managers and Supervisors in the implementation of subcontracted scope of work.
