Crynodeb

Are you looking for a role that is genuinely rewarding and allows you the chance to make a real difference to a young person's life? We are currently recruiting for a permanent Independent Travel Trainer to help young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities develop their skills to enable them to travel independently to school or college by public transport.

At Wakefield our vision is to support our children and young people to ensure they are happy healthy safe and ambitious so we can work together to help them achieve their potential and dreams. If you share this ethos, then we really want to hear from you.

About you:

You will have excellent communication skills, in addition to a good understanding of the needs of vulnerable service users and groups. A motivated individual with experience of young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities and with good organisational skills will be required. Applicants should also be flexible in their approach to work and be able to work early mornings, late evenings and travel across the district by public transport.

You will also get on well with people, have a compassionate and supportive nature and be patient and understanding. Ideally, you will also need to have previous experience of caring for people with special educational needs and/or disabilities or have worked in a related field.

You must also be very reliable and flexible.

About the role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a programme of independent travel training for students with special educational needs and/or disabilities and, where appropriate, for looked after children. This will require working with schools, colleges, colleagues within the Children and Young People's Service, Post 16 Providers, parents and other agencies to develop this work.

Following all necessary risk assessments the successful candidate will assess an individual's existing road safety and travel skills and develop a plan of action suitable to the individual's needs based on a specific identified journey.

The ability to deal with sensitive issues in relation to young people with special educational needs and/or learning difficulties and other vulnerable young people is an essential part of this role.

What we will offer in return

We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do. We offer a good rate of pay, a great set of terms and conditions and training opportunities.

An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this role. A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
