Summary
This is a six-month Specialist Clinical Fellowship covering the whole breadth of knee surgery including soft tissue knee surgery, joint preservation and primary knee arthroplasty. This fellowship will include exposure to single & multi-ligament knee surgery, osteotomy, patellofemoral realignment and stabilisation surgery, cartilage repair and replacement surgery, meniscal allograft transplants as well as partial knee (UKR, PFJR), and total knee arthroplasty.
The fellow will be expected to cover acute and elective knee clinics, elective theatre lists, soft tissue and arthroplasty MDTs. Although there are no direct timetabled trauma activities, acute knee trauma lists may include knee specific trauma such as locked knees, peri-articular and peri-prosthetic trauma, and basic trauma suitable for a post-CCT lower limb fellow.
The fellowship is designed to provide the fellow with the necessary supervised and independent experience in order to be ready for an independent consultant practice. The fellow will be expected to work towards progressive autonomy and will be provided the opportunity of ad-hoc fallow lists with independent operating list suitable for their skillset and parallel to another consultant in order to develop their operative and theatre management skills.
In addition to clinical commitments, there is also an expectation for the fellow to work towards the production of one research paper related to knee surgery and the research program of the knee unit, which the fellow will have one-to-one guidance in order to complete and submit to a relevant journals/conference.
The fellow will have the opportunity to attend cadaveric workshops in order to familiarize themselves with the latest implants and techniques relevant to arthroscopic/open knee surgery and arthroplasty.

The timetable is predominantly supervised, but there is also opportunity for independent operating. There is enough flexibility to ensure maximisation of training opportunities.
In addition, the Fellow will attend dedicated soft tissue and arthroplasty MDT meetings, and the departmental academic and audit programs.
